I was referring to Marvin Johnson, as I was talking about the LHWs of the late 70s/early 80s.

Ah OK, thanks amigo. I don't have time to go through the whole thread. In a bit of a hurry tonight. Quick question for you though since we are on the subject: Joe Calzaghe v Glen Johnson in 2004 - who you got? :bbb

I have a problem with the Hagler and Hearns "PROBABLY" stopping Joe.Due to Hearns reach speed and power, thats possible.Hagler? No way,IMHO.He didnt stop Antuefermo,Duran or Leonard, but stops Joe?
I Also think Joes size speed and workrate make a Leonard UD unlikely.
    Joe is no Don Lalonde.

Maybe because a number of posters, in their haste to denigrate Calzaghe, foolishly claim that the 'fab four' would all brutally stop him.

In actual fact, Calzaghe, while not as skilled as any of the four, would be favoured over all of them.

The skill level difference is too small to overcome the size difference.

Only Hagler would have a serious chance, and he would be facing a 15 lb handicap and a workrate he'd never encountered.

As for your question as to how Calzaghe would fare against the LHWs of the earlier era, he would hold his own with many of them, but he wouldn't be in the same top echelon he now holds at this SMW division.

He would probably be overmatched against Foster, Spinks, Jones, etc.

Guys most of you are missing the point of the thread, Im saying that we shouldnt be matching up Calzaghe vs duran/hagler/leonard/hearns, instead we should be matching up Calzaghe against top SMW and LHW's.

The fab4 are lower weight fighters, I honestly think Calzaghe would handily beat all of them and that is no slur on the fab4 who are clearly all awsome.

Joe is highly overrated...Not saying that Leonard, Hagler, Hearns beats Joe..Juss sayin the fight would be competitive...and for guys that started out at lower weight classes and were "smaller fighters" it would be a great victory as far as legacy juss to contend with him..with that said i think i might favor hagler over prime Joe and leonard and hearns would be a close 1 too....JOE NEVER FOUGHT A PRIME ROY JONES, PRIME HEARNS, OR PRIME LEONARD!!!:huh
