And there's some dude named RicoSpadafora who has an unnatural hate for RJJ. He comes out with some outlandish ****, man. And there are countless others who's idiotic posts about Hop and Jones are starting to do my head in. Does my starting a thread like this mean guys like them are winning? :think

Aargh this forum is turning me into a friggin psycho!

Fighters that are currently hot are always overated.

Hopkins is also overated, and some people like to place Jones #1 all time in something called the "pound for pound head to head ranking".

Like anything else, Calzaghe will be rated higher in the classic forum and lower in the general forum in 10 years.

Not sure if I'd say JC is higher than RJJ or BHOP but he surely desreves to be placed in the same league. All 3 are around the same age and he beat them both. Hopkins was #3 in The Ring P4P ratings whene Joe beat him and BHOP is currently #4. Also JC is undefeated at 46-0 and fought some tough competition (Kessler, Eubanks, Lacy, Sheika, Mitchell, Brewer, Reid).

Don't forget that Calzaghe isn't officially finished yet either. He may still beat guys like Dawson.

I wasn't aware that calzaghe had unified at 168, I thought he'd only held 2 of the major belts and the WBO before moving up. As for the 2002 fight falling through; I cited the general politics of boxing as the major reason for Calzaghe Ottke not happening. It's general I know, but even for cherry-picking *******s like Ottke and Beyer you can't tell me that old Frank Warren couldn't have made the plum sweet enough to make the fight happen somehow, somewhere. Hopkins priced himself out of the fight in 2002 because as he saw it he was by far the bigger name, an undisputed champ, and althought the fight would have been on American soil it would have been at Calzaghe's preferred weight. In all the above cases the respective parties came to a stale-mate in negotiations, whether it was due to money, location or the division. I DO consider these to be similar circumstances and basically posted it as a response to people who think that Hopkins was running scared.

3 years age difference you say? Wow, I haven't posted anything that indicates that I already knew that! Thank you for that deft observation, and congratulations on not reading my original post before you bashed away at your keyboard!

    Agreed.

Yeah, him and all his little goons. I was pretty specific in my original post as to whom this thread was aimed... Why? You think I'm spending too much effort on an argument with the village idiot?

    **** off!

He had them all at one point or the other. IBF from Lacy and the WBC/WBA from Kessler.

He won the IBF from Lacy and never lost it in the ring (he was stripped for not facing Stieglitz as HBO insisted he fight someone American viewers had seen on tv before). He then beat Kessler who was unified WBC and WBA champion at the time.

I'm sure he could. I'm sure Calzaghe might have been able to tempt Ottke into a fight by going to Germany for a pittance. And then what? Would he have to knock out Ottke to win? Or would that not even be enough? Watch Ottke v Reid if you want to know what would happen. Calzaghe's pretty good, but he wouldn't beat Ottke with a referee giving warnings for punches to the face. So he makes no money for the fight and gets robbed of his title, what does that prove?

You may take a different view, of course, but I really don't see that as in anyway similar to Hopkins choosing to stay at MW and wait for ODLH rather than step up and face Calzaghe. Hopkins made what he saw as the better risk v reward decision, Calzaghe chose not to go on a suicide mission.

So that's 3 people? Hardly needs to be a thread dedicated to it really does there? I dont think many people will rank him above either, especially Jones Jr.

If you could climb out of McGrain's crevice for a minute :D, you would realize that Calzaghe's legacy will in fact depreciate with time, as in 10 years Jeff Lacy will be remembered as just another Charles Brewer and that shoddy excuse for a resume will be perceived as even shoddier, and all of his fairweather fans will have got bored with boxing upon his retirement since the vast majority of them appear to be hometown fanboys with little or no interest in boxing as a sport or its history.
