Calzaghe fans! Be honest, would Joe have won if he'd been fighting 2001-2005 B-Hop??

Calzaghe connected at a higher percentage and 100+ more punches than Hopkins. And, you want to give effective aggression and defense to Bernard?

 

Come on you chase the fights and make them happen; you do what ever you can to make them happen, if you really want them. You move weight even...

Clinton Woods gets a shot at RJJ, but Calzaghe can't.... cmon. He's been in the game for 15 years surely he could have found one big p4p match up.

We are living through the Pavlik sarga now... the evidence of joes antics is there for everyone to see...

 

It's easier to throw a lot of punches and connect when you don't sit down on your punches and just slap. It was ineffective aggression. The only thing "effective" about his aggression was the fact that it put Hopkins on his bicycle and that wore him out.

And defense? Yeah, i give to Hopkins. Who landed the 3-4 hardest shots in the fight? Hopkins. Who was KD once and staggered another time? Calzaghe.

 

But i'm being unfair to Calzaghe. He did try to make the fight and when you commit like he does, he is bound to get caught and he did. It was an ugly fight against two contrasting styles. I honestly did have it 6-6. I tried to be fair i think.

 

If you have to rely on the compubox numbers to tell you who won this fight, i don't know what else to say. When they read the compubox numbers after the fight, i was shocked. They must've counted every meaningless and feathrer fisted slap that even remotely grazed Hopkins' face or body as a hit.

 

You know what's funny? Despite all those slaps landing, Hopkins didn't have a mark on his face. :scaredas:

 

it's funny because hopkins fans sure loved compubox following the taylor fights.

 

But i'm saying. If Calzaghe did land so much, where is the evidence on Hopkins' face? If he did indeed land all those slaps, that's all they were, slaps.

 

Which brings us back to my initial post:

Hopkins fans are still looking for excuses

 

Difficult to say. Calzaghe won, but in many ways Hopkins got the better of him and made it his fight.

Plus, Calzaghe was past prime too, and its hard to guess exactly how different the fight would have turned out. Hopkins is nothing like shot, its not like he was a completely different fighter in 2001-2005.

Still, I would favour Hopkins in this period, but only just.
