I'm hearing alot about "Whatever Calzaghe does, won't be good enough" and "Calzaghe just can't win with the American public" BLAH....BLAH....BLAH!!!

Anwser me this then. If Calzaghe wanted credit and to cement his legacy then why would he pick to fight Roy Jones? Roy Jones got knocked out twice by Tarver and Johnson, and then lost another clear decision to Tarver in a fight that solidified the notion of him being "shot" :deal He had two unimpressive points victories over nobodies and then fought another faded legend at 170lbs. Calzaghe being the "Ring Lt Heavyweight Champ" ignores the real threats at Lt Heavy being Dawson, Johnson and Adamek and Tarver even.....and fights Roy???? And then bitches about not getting credit??? :patsch

I dont think Calzaghe cares what Americans or anyone else thinks about his legacy, I think he just points out the truth, that there is no pleasing some people no matter what.

Mark my words, if Joe fights & beats Dawson, then Chad will have been `never that great to begin with` blah blah blah.

But the problem is one of the most boring fighters to watch of the last 20 years is Bernard Hopkins and yet he`s revered by American fans, the same guys who try to denegrate Calzaghe at every turn, why is there this apparent discrepancy???? Let`s think about it for a few nano seconds...........that`s right I remember now!!!! He`s from the good old US of A!!!! I swear if Joe gets USA tattooed on his arse he`ll beat Obama in 4 years time! :D

He fought Roy Jones Jnr because he had unfinished business with him !
Recent posts on here tell the story of how Roy Jones declined to fight Calzaghe in 2001, Roy Jones asked Chris Eubank should he fight Calzaghe and was told, Calzaghe is too much of a risk for you to fight.

It's all a load of brit hating nonesense. Even if Jones did get knocked out twice and then beaten again by tarver, he was still competitive in those fights. Whereas Calzaghe handed his arse to him. All that stuff about the knockdown is nonesense too, the last thing to leave a boxer they say, is his punch. Calzaghe is in truth an exceptional boxer and should be remembered for his exciting style and come forward attitude not hated for poor management.

Excellent post. Im surprised Pavlik isnt on that list of fighters he didnt wanna fight either, because before Hops beat him, that was the fight everyone wanted, Pavlik vs Calzaghe, but slappy made it clear he wanted no part of Pavlik, instead he wanted an obviously faded roy jones. Although, I do give Joe lots of credit for beating Kessler

Me saying Jones may win.....doesn't change the fact that he was still shot. George Foreman KO'd Michael Moorer....it doesn't mean he was prime or even close to it :deal And actually up until the VERY end, when I really got caught up in the hype and let my emotions take over I was predicting Jones's legs to fail him and Calzaghe to batter him.

How will Dawson get exposed? He has already beaten Tarver, Johnson and Adamek. :deal And yes....today Tarver is a much harder fight then Jones.

Couldn't agree more. People keep going on about no matter what he does he doesn't get the credit he deserves - he doesn't ****ing deserve it til he has put together a strong resume! Dining out on the back of 3 wins - Lacy, Kessler, and a controversial decision over Hopkins - can only last so long. He needs big fights to cement his legacy, as history will not remember Lacy or Kessler very kindly IMO.

He can get credit when he's earned it, not for fighting 3 good opponents in 11 years as a world champion then slapping around the corpse of Roy Jones for a sack of cash.

I think some people are misunderstanding my point. I'm not hating on Joe. Think he is a great fighter. Thought he clearly beat Hopkins. But all the criticism his resume and legacy gets is well deserved. He fought Manfredo for crying out loud a couple years ago. Kessler and HOpkins were good wins. But his decision to fight Jones at this stage is NOT admirable!

Ok here is a very good comparison I think. If JMM and EM put together a huge fight in Mexico for Cinco de Mayo 2009. JMM is older then EM and has been in many wars himself. But it was clear to everyone in the 2nd and 3rd fights with Pacman and then further in the Diaz fight that Morales is done! But they could put togetherr a fight and JMM who already has a close victory over Mexico's other legend Barrera, could fight Morales and get his name on his resume. JMM would absolutely slaughter younger Morales at this stage in there careers.

I don't think this fight will ever happen though. JMM is chasing after Pac, Juan Diaz, just KO'd Casamayor, could even possibly challenge Hatton.

You see the difference in JMM and Calzaghe here....and the similarities a possible fight b/w JMM and Morales would have with the circus show fight b/w Calzaghe and Jones we just saw????
