Hopkins was a great fighter at that point in time. he was the champ at Lightheavy, and was one of the best P4P. he's still a very good fighter today. he also has some very solid wins after the Joe loss.

who gives a **** about the always overrated Dawson? he meant nothing back then, he means nothing now. he lost to two fighters who were in their prime who weren't the best in Pascal and ?Stevenson.

 

styles make fights. it was a bad style for Hopkins. all Dawson did was keep him at range and bore the **** out of everybody. it was a poor performance.

 

he's null and void with every post he makes. not just the Ali vs Wlad ones.

 

To be a Joke Al fan, you must ignore several realities:
1. His own words about not wanting tough fights.
2. Three videos of laughable stoppages.
3. The fact that his minor belt wasn't even universally recognized.


You can keep your delusions, you are entitled to them. But when the man's words, resume, and film show that he doesn't belong in the same sentence as legitimate ATG's, I can't help but point that out.

Of course, just like the UFO people, you will persist and continue to make arguments which are further and further from the truth while completely overlooking, in fact denying, the objective evidence the rest of the world sees.

The best fighter in the decade of the golden age of boxing, Olympic gold medalist, wins over ATG's Wilfred Benitez, Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, and Thomas Hearns, all of whom are in the top 50 ATG fighters of all time, the first fighter to win 5 belts in 5 different divisions, is overrated?

Ali, wins over ATG heavyweights George Foreman, Sonny Liston, Joe Fraizer, and Floyd Patterson, the first 3 time Heavyweight champion, fought and was the best in the golden era of Heavyweight boxing and the best Heavyweight of all time is overrated?

If there was a "1" where that "0" is, there would be no arguments.

The problem is that the substance just isn't there beyond a few very good wins, which is why the "0" is so important.

His resume isn't as bad as many make it out to be, but if it was 45-1 as opposed to 46-0, he'd be a good fighter with a good chance at making the IBHOF. But 46-0, he's a lock and some call him an ATG. Problem is, something's missing in the quality of opposition, which leads to questions.

So, the "0" does make a difference. In a good way of course, but it also leaves plenty of those questions unanswered.

 

Well put. Had a second judge swung the split decision to Reid, we're talking about a guy with one solid win (Kessler) and a couple of notable wins against aging greats. His accomplishments are put in much better context.

But Joe kept his "0" through careful matchmaking and it paid off for him. He has a group of fans who are so captivated by it, they can't see his flaws.

 

Hagler would have ****ing killed him.

 

Hagler had trouble dealing with fighters with hand speed, even a shot 1 eye'd leonard gave him fits. I honestly see hagler getting lacy'd minus the knock down. Hagler was also a much smaller man about 5'8 1/2 160lbs against joe calzaghe 5'11 168lbs
