Joe ran away with a win from an Ancient Hopkins. A prime Hagler would've bulldozed right through Joe, he has nothing to keep the Marvelous one away.
The ghost of Roy Jones Jr had Calzaghe rocked in the first round and nearly had him out of there. Shutter at the thought of what Roy would've done in his prime Vs JC. Doubt it would've lasted half a round.
atsch again, H2H fights where Calzaghe is concerned, are allowed to always be in their prime. but Joe isn't? it's just boring reading this utter nonsense. Joe wasn't prime either when fighting Hopkins. a prime Joe is a whole lot different to that version. jeeeez! atsch
:huh he knocked Joe down. big deal. he never had him close to going. and Jones didn't attack because he knew Joe wasn't hurt and didn't want to risk getting countered and taken out. we've seen what happens with Joe in that position. go and watch the Mitchell fight. atsch Joe wasn't prime when he fought Jones either. are you people with head injury's or something? maybe you're all 15 and don't know what you're talking about? because it's nothing but stupidity from some of you. :deal
He was the Ring champ, but Erdei was the lineal champ until his retirement. To be fair, the Ring title was more meaningful than the lineal by the time Calzaghe fought Hopkins.
bailey, The king of spin. It doesn't matter if he was knocked down 7 times at WW. He was 28 and comfortable at MW. He'd just beaten Joppy who was a decent fighter, and nobody expected what happened. Joe was 25 against a fighter coming towards the end of his career. Hopkins was 37. What Eubank did at CW is irrelevant. You can't try and spin the facts. He was faded, he was at the end of his career, and he was preparing to fight Mark Prince who was a LHW. Then with 11 days notice, he suddenly had to hit 168 instead of 175, and he was facing a SOUTHPAW! It was a good win. But under the various CIRCUMSTANCES, it can't be classed as a great win. Work what out? That doesn't alter the above facts that I've given. My mistake, but so what? Hagler was disgusted with the Leonard decision and vowed to never fight again. But under the circumstances, it was still a great win for Ray, even though Marvin retired. How can you compare the "Superfight" to Joe's fight with Eubank? So what?? Once again, it still doesn't alter the facts. Eubank was past his best, and he was scheduled to fight at 175, and then with 11 days notice, he had to come down a further 7 pounds AND fight a young SOUTHPAW. It was a psychological problem. No, he didn't have a psychological problem against Roy. And why would he have done? He'd already dismissed Roy as being shot, and in 2007, he said a fight against Roy would be pointless. He also said that he'd be disappointed to fight Roy, as he wasn't great anymore. So he had no fear of a near 40 year old version of Roy. It was easy money for him.
