His legacy is Lacey. I don't care how much the clowns were slobbing Lacey's knob at the time, anyone with a brain knew Lacey was a hype job himself.
Of course he did, two PPVs that sold 100k each. Ancient Trinidad vs ancient Jones sold twice what Calzaghe did fighting Jones in his last "farewell, no one gave a **** anyway" fight.
Joe has his fair share of haters here. But I think there a few others who are more divisive than him: Floyd Vitali Wlad Pac and my favorite of them all - The Motha****in Hayemaker
Its all the English posters on this site, remember its the only legit guy they have, so his incomplete career gets overrated by them. I'm not saying all Brits feel this way cause many an objective Brit (sorry its how we describe you here) can look at the career without being a fan-boy. Joe was special, how special? we will never know. He spent his prime fighting OK opponents and some like Reid had him going life and death. There were no rematches, He cancelled vs. some tough opponents. He fought some greats when they were well past it. His best win is probably Kessler which doesn't say much as Kessler is just another in a long list of good Champions that's it. Jeff Lacy, I understand that the sight of a well muscled dangerous black man drives most Anglos into quivers but I'm in the Bronx and that victory just doesn't cut the same ice here. Black people here aren't anointed with special magical powers. That victory here just doesn't have the same Psych/sociological impact that it has over there. To me Lacy was just a hyped scrub. Joe had no real confidence in his own abilities, as those who can do, and I cant anoint Joe with attributes that were not proven in the ring and proven beyond a shadow of a doubt against the highest caliber opposition, its that simple. Joe reined in a weak era and didn't do enough in his prime, so there will always be doubts and speculation about Calzaghe's status and level of greatness as a Champion, I will say he is among the top fighters to come out of the UK. He is also one of the top 168 pounders of all time, but 168 is a bull**** division a refuge for guys seeking an advantage and who should be at the classical great weight of 175 . What he certainly is not, is greater than Marvin Hagler. His career is also not greater than Marvin Hagler's career and any objective boxing fan would or should know this.
English British Welsh we can go on all day the......the Irish etc etc....... The British Isles are stock full of Calzaghe dickriders, is this better????????
Paper title??. Here's the problem with ur argument........ u don't have one. Joe beat EVERYONE put in front of him that includes eubank, lacey, kessler, hopkins, jones junior etc. Unfortunately we have ppl like u where the problem isn't talent or american vs brittish or african vs european or european vs aussie...... again mentioning klits who tbh am not a fan of but u only mention because of ur own prejudice. Realiyy is whether u like him or not joe had an unbeaten record an for me has a cuple atg,s on that record so have no argument especially wit pac who there's suspicions of being a drug cheat and amir who love to watch but the guy just doesn't have the punch resistance to keep a championship
Yeah english an welsh all the same just like yanks an canadians...... an em germans and italians and argentinians an brazillians...... Not from any of these countries but what a stupid comment
