A lot of the above posts prove one thing. If English, and Welsh mean the same thing then so must Yanks and fvcking IDIOTS. Calzaghe spanks Hagler every day of the week and twice on Sundays. The plodding slow as treacle Hagler is one of the most over rated fighters even by imbecilic American standards. He was wary of the pumped up Duran, and exposed by a Welter that hadn't fought for years, and you've got wierdo's on here that think he would beat the bigger stronger faster Calzaghe. Get real ffs.
Kessler is also arguably Wards best win so if that doesn't say much about Calzaghe then likewise with Ward, your logic Hindsight with Lacy is a wonderful thing he was considered a future star at the time it is a fact that can be proved. Besides Ward this era is barely different
It would be a very interesting fight at 168 with Calzaghe having the edge in speed, reach, and workrate and Hagler having the edge in power, punch selection, and chin. Where Hagler and Calzaghe both flourished above their peers is that they both had excellent adaptability in the ring to change and find a way to win during fights, both could fight on the front foot, both could fight on the back foot. You would have to feel that a style match up between Hagler and Calzaghe would provide fantastic enterainment, here we have 2 fighters who don't hold and look to break the action (unlike Hopkins), and we have 2 fighters that produced their absolute best when faced with adversity. P4P I think Hagler is the better fighter, but a head to head match up at 168 I think is a fight of the year contender and a toss of the coin decision.
I would pick Calzaghe. Both had great chins, so it would go the distance. Calzaghe would be too much for Hagler. When a former LW can push Hagler to the limit a former WW beat him, I couldnt imagine Hagler doing better against the best SMW ever, who is faster and better. Calzaghe, clear points winner, but Hagler is a true MW great however it goes
Hi mate, nice to see you. I've tried to send you a PM, but I wasn't able to. Yes I've checked out the forum, and I'll give it a go soon. Hope you've had a good weekend. :good
This and HEADBANGER's #54 above are good posts. I'd give Joe the edge and most likely to get a UD after 12 or 15 rounds. Would be an entertaining fight !
