I just watched the fight on the Setanta website (it was my birthday so I was partying in the early hours so missed the fight live before anyone asks).

I'm a fan of both fighters so was a little apprehensive about this fight. So I guess in the context of Calzaghe that makes me a fan rather than a hater which is important for the poll.

I got absolutely no pleasure out of watching this fight. Seeing RJJ like that put me on a downer more than anything. The only thing that benefitted from this fight was Calzaghe and RJJs bank balances. I dont think Calzaghes legacy benefitted and asides from fair weather glory fans i dont think any boxing fan can have enjoyed the spectacle. The fight was too easy for Calzaghe and it lacked any edge - the pre-fight absence of slanging matches was refreshing but you almost feel that they are a price worth paying if that translates into the ring, last night we got nothing.

I dont mean to sound surprised. this fight was only going to deliver if RJJ pulled something out of the bag. Old father time was in his corner unfortunately and it made for a rather sad show. :verysad

All in all a hollow victory. more of an exhibition than a contest. I dont think Calzaghe will fight again as i dont think the motivation is there. I really hope RJJ doesnt fight again.

Anyway the purpose of the poll is to try to gauge how many sane Calzaghe "fans" there are. My theory is anyone who enjoyed the victory must be slightly OTT in their love of JC whereas a sane boxing fan will have been left feeling as empty as I was. Let's see...

    It was great.

When RJJ was beating up garbage men, I bet you thought that was exciting?

But when Joe does it, oh, its hollow.

    WTF?

I already said i'm a calzaghe "fan". i've enjoyed every victory up until last night (to varying degrees obviously, there wasnt much to like about the Salem fight for example).

I wasnt even getting into an argument about the merits of the two fighters records.

All i've said is that most fight fans have a high regard for RJJ both as a fighter and as a person. Seeing him reduced to a shadow of himself and to be exposed like that is not a gratifying experience. Perhaps its just because it serves as a harsh reminder to us all of what growing old means and that noone is immune.

Either way i didnt enjoy it. It's very different to wathcing some bum get outclassed.

Just saying, RJJ reputation as an "exciting" fighter literally came when he was showing off against bartenders, garbage men, and far less dangerous opponents than Joe was fighting last night.

It was great to watch a great like Joe put on an absolute clinic, how could that be anything but entertaining?

OK. to put it another way. I enjoyed the Lacy fight a hell of a lot more and i think it did more for Joe.

Whilst there's no doubt it was a masterful performance last night and demonstrated glimpses of some of this talent, the fact it was against a fighters who has undoubtedly seem better days only gives his detractors more ammunition.

**** them, critics are critics for a reason, they lack any sort of positive force in their life.

Joe put on a show last night, a masterclass in boxing. If RJJ clowning garbage men is entertaining, Joe C obliterating RJJ certainly is too.

Watching Joe C school anybody for 11 straight rounds is great, sorry. The Lacey fight was visually spectacular, but just knowing of all the haters getting all frustrated and either lashing out ignorantly or crying into their pillow makes it sweeter.

Joe C is the best fighter in the world from 168-175, has been for a while.

Calzaghe must be one hell of a garbage man then.

Funny how guys like Toney, Hopkins, Ruiz(wake me up when a British "elite" fighter fights from Middleweight all the way to heavyweight), Tarver, Griffin, Trinidad, Woods, Kelly, Harding, Gonzalez and MANY more are bartenders yet Ashira, Lacy, Manfredo and Eubank are supreme ATGs.

This is a multi weight division champion who fought all the way to heavyweight, Calzaghe didn't even unify super middleweight till Lacy and Kessler literally ran after him all the way to England.

If he fought garbage men then I'm sure you would be in his record.

His famous "behind the back" KO, was literally a part time garbage man, I'm not making this up.

Jones fought many good fights against many good opponents, but the showboating he is known for was against nobodies, including a LITERAL garbage man.

Joe Calzaghe has his share of bartenders, garbage men and farmers as well. 20 defenses and only two names to mention?, both names were champions that went after him. What happened to unifying straight away like Jones did when he made his move to Light heavy?

    I know all of this.

I'm not saying RJJ fought nobodies, I'm not taking anything away from his career, he's an elite level career guy. I'm saying his famous showboating moments came against guys like Glen Kelly, part time Garbage man, sorry, its the truth.

So if people enjoyed RJJ showboating so much, why not enjoy Joe showboating RJJ?

Both have been great fighters, Joe still is, and its always fun to watch a great fighter put on a complete boxing domination.

Right now Joe is the best boxer in the world at that weight range, and he just put on an absolute clinic, that is entertaining, I don't care if it happened to be a few peoples hero in there, in fact, that makes it all the better.

I found it to be a very exciting fight actually.

The first round KD had me on the edge of my seat, and while I like both fighters, I do get sick of the usual empty posing and posturing that Jones was doing in the first 2 rounds, and found it very funny when Calzaghe did it back at him only bigger and better.

I have yet to see anyone on this site claim this win was particularly significant for Joe, nor have I yet to see anyone claim RJJ is in his prime.

However, I HAVE seen a hell of a lot of posts from people trying to make out that Calzaghe fans believe it WAS a significant victory and that RJJ IS in his prime.

I guess they'll try anything to take away from Calzaghe's win.

Damn right, Glen 'Kunga' Kelly was a garbo for South Sydney council when he fought RJJ, and still works for the council in some capacity I believe.

Maybe you should know what you are talking about before making bad jokes?

He literally fought a garbage man, sorry about the truth, I don't make it.

He had a great career, but he had some horrible, inexcusably bad opponents in between fighting real fights.

You might want to question the people who don't enjoy his showboating, I never said I didn't enjoy it nor did I say anything bad about Calzaghe the person and fighter. Though when I see idiots claim this fight is against a prime Jones then it's always good to join in for a laugh.

About showboating against garbage men, Jones successfully showboated against Toney, Hopkins, Tarver, Ruiz, Woods, Trinidad, Gonzalez, Harding, Hill and almost all of his fights. If you have only seen the Kelly fight then that's your problem.

Calzaghe showboated against Manfredo, Pudwell, Bika and Ashira.

    I'll let you decide.

As far as showboating in general is concerned, both these fighters use that as it's their style of fighting, it makes them feel more comfortable and relaxed in there doing that. It has nothing to do with being disrespectful.

Scar has been unusually bitter since Calzaghe beat RJJ :yep

The man who likes to think himself a noble objective fan of the sweet science has shown himself up to be yet another hater :hey
