In order - Hopkins, Kessler, Reid, Eubank, Lacy, Woodhall, Mitchell, Brewer, Jones, Bika. Sheika had already been exposed as a fraud by Paul Wesley .
Im not really a fan but I will try and do a list. Kessler Hopkins Lacy Woodhall Reid Brewer Eubank Mitchell Jones Bika Its a shame guys like Wharton and Collins were not still active when Joe was fighting.Im not a fan but he did beat some decent guys. His hardcore fans just build him up too much.He had a lot of awful fights as well.Pudwill,Manfreado to name 2.
For me, his best wins, roughly in order, are: 1. Hopkins- Ring LHW champ, first fight away from home and at a new weight. Sure Bhop was old at the time, but his last two fights were wins over Winky Wright and Tarver, and he went on to destroy Kelly Pavlik in his next fight. Also P4P #3 at the time. Good win. 2. Chris Eubank. Eubank was not shot by any stretch of the imagination. He was however, past his best but still had a lot to offer the sport. But, Calzaghe was still slighty green, so he didn't hold all the aces for this fight. Good hard fight, and good win also. 3. Kessler. Kessler had fought a lot of reasonable opposition by that stage, nothing special though. Gave Calzaghe fits for the first half of the fight before Calzaghe adjusted and won comfortably unifying the titles in the process. Good win again. 4. Lacy. Sure Lacy has been shown to be nothing special. But prior to this fight he was heavy favorite, a 'mini-mike tyson' they said. Calzaghe absolutely destroyed him in one of the greatest beat downs I have ever seen. 1006 punches landed over 12 rounds. To be honest watching that fight I was blown away, I expected a hard fought fight. Good win. So they are Calzaghes 4 undisputably good wins. From here it gets hard though. 5. Reid. Reid had only lost his title a year before meeting Calzaghe. Calzaghe won a tough, debatable decision. Reasonable win. 6. Byron Mitchell. Mitchell had lost his title in a very dodgy decision to Sven Ottke only months before meeting Calzaghe. This is the case with a few fighters Calzaghe fought and for that I think he should be given some credit. He fought a lot of fighters immediately after they lost their titles, mostly via dodgy decisions. Therefore fighting them when they were at their highest risk lowest reward stage. Mitchell had him down hard for the first time in his life, he came back and stopped him in the same round. Reasonable win. 7. Probably Ritchie Woodhall now. Good boxer coming off a close decision loss to Mulinga, although fighting Calzaghe at the end of his career. Half decent win. 8. Charles Brewer. Half decent in his day but past it when fighting Calzaghe. Okay win. Aside from that the last two spaces can be filled with anyone from Manfredo jr. to Sakio Bika, doesn't really matter. All in all though, his record is nothing spectacular but it is no joke neither. He does have some very good wins on there.
For Calzaghe: Kessler Hopkins Lacy Eubank Woodhall Mitchell Brewer Reid Bika Sheika For Hopkins: Trinidad Tarver Wright Pavlik DLH Johnson Joppy Echols Holmes Allen (2nd fight)
Proof that you cant debate a quote without changing the facts . Whats bull****? Thats right nothing. You have failed again whilst ive taken all your points leaving you with nothing but insults. Pwned is what you say when you can put forward and counter which leaves no room for arguement. You have been unable to do this. Thats pwned. FAIL.
No one bothers reading ur ****, so i did you a favor by summarizing it. Regarding RJJ, Calzaghe pwned himself by saying RJJ was too much for him, then he said RJJ was past it, then he said RJJ still got his speed Source: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/columnists/hugh_mcilvanney/article5162651.ece Man you think RJJ was in his prime because he lost a 12 round decision vs Tarver. And you think Jeff Lacy was a great because he beat Scott Pemberton. Anyway here is what I summarized regarding the **** you said:
As people have added what they think are Hopkins 10 best, Ill add that to my original quote, as to what I think in no order. 1. Pavlik, fighting heavier than ever before to give Hopkins the advantage but still undefeated world MW champ. 2. Trinidad, an undefeated MW champ and favourite to win, but had only had one fight ever at MW, to put things in perspective and there were rumours of hands not wrapped correctly giving added impact to punches, in previous fights 3. De La Hoya, WBO MW champ but as like above only one fight at MW ever before which was a disputed win 4. G Johnson, hadnt fought anyone of note when Hopkins beat him and lost many fights after, but in fairness to Hopkins, Johnson was undefeated and not been stopped since. 5. A Tarver, a good win against the reigning Ring LHW champ, who had found his level in splitting a pair of fights with Johnson 6. H Eastman, a solid MW win against the European champ 7. Joppy, a solid MW win against WBA regular champ 8. Wright, a former LMW champ. Hopkins wins against another smaller but well known fighter, who had never fought so heavy before 9. Holmes, a rival MW champ 10. Mercado 2, came back from a draw against a fighter he could only manage a draw against first time round. Fighters 1,2,3,7 were all naturally smaller fighters, three of which have never fought as high again since As Headbanger said smoke and mirrors
The thing is when I suggest Eubank was weight drained, and I bring up facts where Eubank showed he was struggling to make 168 in the fights prior and after Calzaghe as an indication, you reject it. Then I say Eubank was past it, you reject that, I bring up Eubank being retired after Collins fight as an indication he was past it and hanged them up but you reject that also stating he was still a great fighter at the point. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7872746.stm But you reject that aswell. When I say Jeff Lacy didnt beat anyone great, you say he looked good in a 2 round no contest fight against Tsypko. To indicate this I say his best wins are over old men Pemberton and Robin Reid, but you havent proved Jeff Lacy was great. He was a good win, but not an ATG win. My opinion: Jeff Lacy was an American Hypejob who got exposed for what he was by Calzaghe, and didnt show he was a great win because he never showed he was great. You say Calzaghe vs Kessler was the blueprint Ward used to beat Kessler. But when you study the two fights you see a complete difference between the two performances. Ward rarely went into a southpaw stance. And Ward rarely used slapping combination punching but you just want to say Ward used Calzaghe's blueprint just to make Calzaghe look better. When I say BHop was more past his prime than Calzaghe you reject that also. I say this because BHop was written off after Taylor, didnt look spectacular in his last fight vs Wright and was 43 years old. Also Calzaghe looked like a beast in his fight vs Kessler his best win to date and was alot more fresh than an old BHop. But you reject this also. When I say RJJ was shot, you say no RJJ wasnt shot because he was in the ring top 10 LHW and went 12 rounds vs Tarver. Also Adrian Diaconu and Hugo Hernan Garay achieved better than RJJ at LHW between the years 2005 - 2009, and RJJ was ranked below them in 2006, but suddenly after a win vs a useless Felix Trinidad gets ranked above them, just to show the faultiness of Ring LHW top 10 at the time, but you would use the Ring LHW top 10 as a basis to justify RJJ still being great. Did you ever consider RJJ shot, like Calzaghe once considered him shot? When Calzaghe himself called RJJ done, but then for his own personal financial gain called him prime later on so he can have a last showdown with him, and Calzaghe called Tarver shot when Tarver had beaten a fresher and more close to prime RJJ than Calzaghe did. I say Mario Veit was a decent level win for Calzaghe, but you like to make it look like Mario Veit was a great fighter who had a MD over Braehmer, but you dont state that he also got KTFO in a rematch. So you can see you would reject whatever I say just to make Calzaghe look greater when he was a good champion who took mininal risks. Thats why I summarize most of the **** you say into the following just to make it easier for others to read you **** without having to go through too many paragraphs: You go so far deep into your nutthuggry you think Mario Veit can beat Andre Dirrell. atsch Only to make Calzaghe look better you pulled a stunt like that, come on man.:-((
