What excuses will we hear if Hopkins manages to beat Calzaghe?

I think Joe will win but if by some reason this happens, what then?

    Theyre already starting....

    Corrupt American judges.
    Corrupt American refs.
    Corrupt American promoters.
Hopkins will fight dirty and should be DQd.
    Jet lag.

Go take a look at any post about this fight and count the amount of premade excuses for Joe...compared to the very few (if any) for Bernard.

    Its borderline hilarious.

He underestimated Hopkins, broke/damaged a hand, Hopkins fouling, biased ref/judges.

Well if a cut appears after a B-Hop headbutt, it's a legitimate excuse as well as a controversial decision - don't forget it's a GBP event and BHop is a GBP fighter.

Hardcore fans will say what they will say. Last I check, Joe has never made excuses for himself. He admitted he kept what should have been a one-sided fight with Bika due to his own stupid showboating. He gives credit to ever fighter, and was just as bothered by the Manfredo stoppage and Peter was. If Calzaghe wins, I just would like to believe Hopkins won't make excuses either. I still have much respect for him, and wouldn't want to see go out like a punk. It was bad enough he had to play stupid and put the whole "black/white" thing out.

I've been saying all along that Hopkins will hold endlessly and get away with whatever he wants to get away with, and will have the benefit of the doubt in the judges' eyes because of his power and influence in American boxing biz. But with that said, Calzaghe can't complain about any of this, because even a complete moron would know that that was what he was signing on for. None of these things can come as a surprise to Calzaghe. Either he's factored all this into his fight plan or he's delusional and deserves to lose. If Calzaghe's willing to live with these handicaps then his fans should be as well. Otherwise he shouldn't have taken the fight. No excuses.

If Calzaghe cannot overcome a pro-Hopkins referee and biased judges, he doesn't deserve to win.

Do you think Calzaghe will get away with punching with open gloves? He normally does when he fights over here in the UK. I'm just hoping the ref in the Hopkins fight clamps down on it.

I see the childish antics are in full swing with over 2 months to go. The fanbois are already making excuses so just read them don't make threads about them. I know this was made in response to a thread that **** MasterCalzaghe started but I wish people would just ignore him instead.

I would consider myself a Calzaghe fan and I would be very disappointed in him if he lost. He knows what he's up against before he's even started training: 3 American judges, 1 American referee and is fighting in Las Vegas. Joe, his fans, Frank Warren and the rest of the world know that if Calzaghe can't stop Hopkins, he has to throughouly beat him in most rounds quite convincingly to win. It's no good this being a close fight because it will not be close on the cards, therefore Joe has got to dominate. If he doesn't, he fails and there are no excuses. Joe agreed to this setup will not to be able to complain if he loses on points in a close one.

If Calzaghe gets stopped or is beaten on points without controversy then he wasn't good enough... simple as that.
