Calzaghe finally talks about Dawson.

He says Dawson is a good fighter and views him as a threat, but he also says that Dawson isn't a star yet and isn't a lucrative fight. I blame Gary Shaw for being such a cheap ass and giving Dawson bad advice, (such as telling him not to fight Diaconu) also Dawson fights on Showtime. What promoter would help Dawson elevate to star status?

 

Well Dawson was going to fight Diaconu in September 07, ONLY because he couldn't fight Tarver. Dawson said in an interview he would of fought his mandatory if he couldn't fight Tarver and I believe him. This year in 08 he did fight Tarver, so that argument is mute.

 

I just think Dawson should of taken care of his mandatory, and if he didn't want to fight him, his promoter should of told him to fight Diaconu. Bob Arum gives good advice to his fighters and Gary Shaw doesn't.

 

What is daft?

His popularity would still be the same even if he did fight Diaconu. He's fighting on Showtime and his promoter is cheap, he'll never get the marketability he wants. There is a reason why Mosley, Wright, and Pacquiao left Gary Shaw. I would like to see Dawson with GBP or Top Rank.
