I give Calzaghe credit dumbass. Haven't you read my posts? He's a great fighter. He is not THE BEST FIGHTER OF THIS GENERATION, nor would he be by beating Woods, Hopkins, and Dawson...

indeed. i'm curious to know why he brought up all the RJJ **** with me. i didn't once claim calzaghe was #1 and didn't once claim he was better than RJJ, **** knows where that rant came from.

I can feel how this hurts you

If Joe beats those fighters aged 35, he will be right up there (Note: probably not first, before you cry). The point about his prime years is idiotic, because if he wins those fights now it will be even more impressive

Because you spoke about the fact that JC could only go to LHW, and talking about what the CW would do to him...

Why can't JC go to Cruiser or Heavy? RJJ did it. I mean if you want to be up there as an ATG, do something worthy of it.

Floyd won titles in 5 weight classes against better competition than JC's competition in 1 weight class.

I'm not being harsh on JC who can't fight in 5 weight classes. I am just saying that he hasn't proven himself to be the best in 1 good weight class. He's hung out in a garbage division, fighting no-names from 1997-2006. That's all it is. JC took money and "title defenses" over ensuring his legacy. That's his right, but call a spade a spade.

No rant, and I never said that you said JC was better than RJJ. YOU WERE THE ONE who made it sound impossible for JC to fight at Cruiser. I say, why can't he? If he wants to be the best of a generation, do something other than dominate a weak division. Be unique. Be beyond great.

I'll resort to logic just as soon as JC fails a drugs test for steroids like RJJ did.

When did JC make an effort to make a BIG FIGHT? All people talk about is Hopkins in 2002. What about 1997-2002...what about 2002-2006???

That doesn't make JC better. I don't defend steroid use at all, but RJJ taking over the counter Ripped Fuel (which is what was claimed and deemed a steroid by the IBF) doesn't make him any less of a great fighter. That was the ONLY time a test like that ever showed up. I am sure he was wrong for doing it, but that doesn't change his body of work.

Why? Dawson is unproven at any type of top level, Hopkins is 43 and WAYYYYYY over the hill, and Clinton Woods is nothing so great himself.

Besides the fact, even if he wins and it is "impressive" as you say, it doesn't negate the fact that this GREAT fighter spent 9 of his prime years fighting unknowns, does it?

I mean be real for a minute. These are separate events. Why should JC get a pass from 1997-2006? You know he wasn't making an effort to make the biggest fights out there...

I'm not really following your logic

If a fighter has a number of big wins on his resume, I personally don't give a **** which time period he fought them in. That's a pretty weak attempt to discredit his potential achievements

Combined with your excuses for all of those opponents, it sounds like you are resigned to Joe beating all of them, and you are getting your excuses in early

    Poor form mate

because RJJ is a freak of nature who whether you like it or not has question marks hanging over his head when it comes to how well he carried the weight etc. joe simply isn't capable of that.

a garbage division? you mean like old man river? who did exactly the same ****ing thing for a decade or so. oh no wait sorry, he dominated the welterweight division as well. :)

as for ensuring legacy, isn't that exactly what he is doing now?

i'm not saying he's the greatest of his generation but there's a 43 year old bloke who dominated a "weak" division and unified it over 10 years, went up and took the crown of a higher division who is apparently an ATG, joe faces him in april but according to many hopkins is leagues ahead.

so is joe an ATG if he beats 'nard?

I don't take credit away from him if he beats those guys.

But, that still doesn't negate the fact that he spent 9 of his best years fighting nobodys. What don't you get??? It's obvious that JC wasn't seeking out the best fights. It's obvious that he's now looking to get paid before he retires, plain and simple.

I'd argue that Hopkins middleweight resume is better than JC's super middleweight resume, with the "welterweights" that he fought. Trinidad was the favorite against Hopkins, which most people forget...

Hopkins jumping 2 divisions at 40 years old to beat the universally recognized LHW champion was a very good accomplishment. It was his first fight at that weight (except for his first fight of his career), and he did it at a VERY advanced boxing age.

Is JC an ATG if he beats BHop? No.

B-Hop is 43, and very much past his prime. JC has recently put on some of his best performances. Beating B-Hop is almost expected at this point (at least by the people on this site).

To be an ATG, JC has to do something spectacular. He's gotta beat an ATG, HOF-caliber fighter IN HIS PRIME or damn close to it.

It's hard to argue that a fighter is an all-time great when he had almost 10 years between his "BIG FIGHTS" (Eubank to Lacy)...

    I still don't follow

If any fighter wants to spend their peak years fighting cab drivers, and then suddenly rattles off 5 huge fights to end their career that's the same to me as spreading them out over a 10 year period. They've only really made life more difficult for themselves, when they step up suddenly

That's not to say Joe has done that, clearly he's fought some very good fighters, and a number of solid ones. This is the icing on the cake now. The money is a non-issue, not sure why you brought that up

Why is the money a non-issue? How could you say that? Do you know Calzaghe or something? Give me a break...

It's not a matter of making it more difficult. He's fighting a 43 year old Bernard Hopkins. That's a bit easier than fighting the one who beat Trinidad.

He'd be fighting a green Dawson (like the Lacy hype-job he fought), and an aging Clinton Woods.

JC would deserve credit for beating high-end fighters at the end of his career, but he should've been doing that YEARS AGO. It's "better late then never", not "better late then earlier". He could've done both...then he would've been TRULY great.

    In the meantime:

Can you name an ATG/HOF-caliber fighter who spent 9 prime years fighting relative no-names (I know a couple were decent) between big fights???
