Calzaghe gave Hopkins an education there...Bernard had no answer to the wide slaps.

I gave the slight edge to Calzaghe, but you fanatical homoerotic nuthuggers are just sickening.

I cant see how anyone could pick a winner from that fight.

Bhop was **** and all joe did was walk forward everytime when he knew bhop was waiting to hug.

joe never once hurt bhop and bhop was just spoiling

Even though I think Calzaghe won Hopkins looked more skilled tonight. There were glimpses in Hopkins style of superb skill but he's just too old.

"A teleconference was set up in my office in New York for July 30th, 2002, and on the call was myself, Don King who was in the room, Frank Warren and Bernard Hopkins' lawyer, Arnold Joseph. Along with Arnold was a woman named Linda Carter, who was there on behalf of Bernard. We asked Arnold if Bernard wanted to fight Joe Calzaghe and we asked him how much money would he want if he did. The response we got was $3million and the fight would have to take place in the United States. After a little scratching of the head, we said 'Okay, done.' Frank Warren agreed on the spot, Don King agreed and we agreed so as far as we were concerned all parties were singing off the one hymm sheet. Arnold excused himself with Linda and I can only assume it was to call Bernard. Either that day or the next day, they came with a new demand: $6million, dobule the sum that had been agreed, the deal blew up.....he had then and still has no desire to fight Joe Calzaghe, that much is pretty clear.

Joe gets criticised sometimes for not having fought the big-name Americans, but in this case the fault has never rested with him."

    thanks for playing. :good

Hopkins didn't have a real amateur career did he?

It showed when he failed to cope in any way with the gentle flurries.

He's an awesome fighter, no one should/can deny that but the overrating is getting out of hand.

I disagree. A 37 year old Hopkins doesn't get winded -throws effective counter punches and straight rights like he did in the first round all night long to win by late TKO.

Exactly, age was keeping Hopkins from winning this fight. Some may argue that Calzaghe was past his best as well but he was nowhere near as faded as Hopkins. There were some instances in the fight where I was screaming at the screen because Hopkins wasn't following up with any of the effective shots he caught Calzaghe with. He had Calzaghe very bewildered in this fight.

Joe was smart with the arm punch slaps. They are not damaging, but they do land and are quicker on the release, which are harder to counter. Kind of amateurish, but hey, it looked good and it worked.

I know you cant make a judjement of one fight but joe at times looked amatuer and with no game plan.

My opinion:: it would have been an easy fight for Bhop if he actually was in the ring to fight a boxing match

Oh, I like to play more please.
I'll only believe that paragraph till I do some researches about it, what I see is what I believe and what I saw is a 43 year old Hopkins accepting the fight and a 35-36 refusing it?, if that makes sense to you then sure but to me it doesn't. Got some more paragraphs to justify not fighting Glen Johnson/Roy Jones/Tarver and many others?, please post.

    So true.

Are you saying it was only the flurries that got him through the fight ?

Maybe Joe is just one dimensional ie flurry master, actually that would be a good nickname for him :D
