I guess you could see it coming.....

It annoys me very much when boxing fans or the general public simply dismiss Joe's win as soon as they see the number 43 next to Hopkins name. The ignorant arent aware or ignore Bernards skills even at his advanced age. Its only every decade you find a fighter capable of competing at world level into his 40s never mind p4p level like Hopkins has.

People are also forgetting that Calzaghe is pushing 37...that is old for a fighter who depends on speed. Most fighters are shot by the time they hit 35. Joe is abviously not shot but has clearly declined.

A younger and less cagey Hopkins vs a younger Calzaghe (not having to press the fight for 12 rounds) would be a different proposition.

I dont want to hear anymore "He nearly got beat by a 43 year old lmao. Calzaghe was never class" :patsch

He gets credit from me but then I always thought it would be a close fight.

this happens after every good win Joe has, there is always some reason why the fight was no good.

Joe did what he had to do against the best possible oponent, in his first fight at a new weight, away from home, he def deserves some props.

    Kudos to JC.

Its not easy to look good and fight well when your opponent is more interested in hugging, using his head and acting to try and get points deductions.

It doesn't matter who he beats, there is always a reason why the win was bad for him. Well i think he deserves credit big time.

He deserves credit for a successful career. He doesnt' deserve credit for his so called win against Hopkins, what exactly did he do to win the fight?? Hopkins but him on his ass and dominated him with superior ring craft. Who cares how many punches he threw, he didnt land a proper punch for ****. I rate Joe to a certain extent but anybody who knows about the art of boxing knows that Hopkins nicked it.

Hopkins looked and fought just fine. He got beaten technically, end of. Truth is X fought a higher paced fight than against others. He had to work more. A younger Hopkins was much more active and that suits Calzaghe much more. This Hopkins made the fight look bad but that doesn't mean the win was bad.

And now we get this bull**** from some quarters about how he has to fight Dawson to prove himself.

Enough with this **** already. I'm no big fan of the man, but he's proven himself. Let him enjoy the moment.

    excuses are always thrown around.

i still don't think the win carries as much clout as it would have done in 2002.

but it's still a good win and probably the 2nd best of his career next to mikkel kessler. :good

I'm only giving him for pretending to hump Hopkins, he still won but It was an older and fouling Hopkins so no point.

Spot on.. Although, it's not even a week since the fight and I think the respect is coming through already for Joe. All the naesayers are looking increasingly like idiots.

I stand by what I said, the fight was close and I could understand if Hopkins had sneaked it by a point or it was a draw on some people's cards. But at the end of the day, the vast majority saw what I saw - including 2 of the 3 people most important people observing the bout.

Joe's a true British boxing legend.
