He needs to let Bernard come at him AND throw tons of punches (including the random hard shot in between 3-4 slaps). Force Bernard to rush him, whenever he does throw tons of punches. De La Hoya did that with some success... Taylor also did that with some success... But I think Slappy Joe wants to please the crowd too much. Bernard doesn't care about the crowd. He's from Philly. Like Bernard said, "Where I come from, In Philly, I've seen people boooh Santa Claus." So Bernard will take the counterpuncher role easily, and Calzaghe will try to land hard shots... and that's a mistake, cuz if he tries to land hard shots Bernard will be able to outmaneuver him easy, and if Bernard outmaneuvers him he disrupts his punch output dramatically... and a Calzaghe without punch output is just an awkward fighter, but not a special one.
I agree... I like your gameplan for Calzaghe... I don't think Enzo will have anything helpful to say to Calzaghe though... the puzzles Bernard will present the Calzaghes with are for PhD students of the sweet science, not for guys who learned in a "How to Box" book.
i expect both men to start tight and show respect for one another. i think people under-estimate hopkin's strength. however, i think calzaghe will win on points due to his tremendous stamina and workrate.
