The facts show themselves easily and another win against another ttop opponent. I had my doubts leading up to the fight and I was not sure if I was going to support him but when he walked out I do not think any British man could have gone for the other guy. Great British performance and future opponents are going to find out what all the fuss is about.
Lewis is one of my favourite ever fighter's but he also got smoked by rahman and mccall which has to play some part in his ranking.
Thats cool. I felt a bit guilty making the post on Calzaghes big day anyway. Probably best to save this discussion for another day? Go Joe!!!:happy:happy:happy
Oh brother. He's not even close to being the best Welsh fighter ever. Ever hear of Jimmy Wilde? Or Tommy Farr? I'd rate Johnny Owen ahead of Calzaghe. He may not have won the world title, but he fought in a real weight division and went up against a champion (Lupe Pintor) who was light years ahead of Kessler as a fighter.
At the end of the day, people coming in on the night Calzaghe beat Kessler & making brash statements like "Joe is the best british fighter ever" emotions are running too high, & one should never make brash statements in the heat of the moment. its too early for arguments like these, & people need to cool down. Maybe in a weeks time people will be able to debate this topic sensibly, but not now when emotions are running so high.
Lol no. Its just that I rate going the distance with Joe Louis (Farr), or going down as one of the hardest hitters in the history of the sport (Wilde) as more of an achievement than slapping Kessler around for 12 rounds. At least we were spared the usual Calzaghe clutching and rabbit punching thanks to an American referee.
Dunky I know what you are saying however while I have not traditionally being a fan of Calzaghe, he is definitely worthy of consideration when these debates are going on. The record does not lie and he has to be ranked as one of the greatest Super Middleweights in history alongside Roy Jones Junior and James Toney.
An excellent fight and a fantastic performance from Calzaghe. I've been wanting him to unify for years, and yesterday showed why. The man has so much talent, he has the lot; speed, boxing ability, footwork, rock solid chin, stamina, can fight at a pace, can change his tactics and fight in different ways, plus he can bang. Superb night for Joe Calzaghe, he's now taken control of the division over the last 18 months and is without doubt the best super middleweight in the world and probably on achievement the best of all time. A couple of more big wins and Calzaghe will claim the tag of best British fighter since the war.
