you're making it sound like Calzaghe did nothing and it was Warren in the ring winning all those fights

Warren also has more money than Calzaghe, not bad for a guy that sits in the crowd to watch his assets fight and makes millions in the process. **** Frank Warren tbh. Anyone who'd honestly not want more than less money needs a reality check.

We all know that Calzaghe is fighting 1 more fight and its just for his pension money. Its nothing to do with fighting the best fighters. Its looking like his last to fights are against Hopkins at 43yrs of age, and an old RJJ (cant be bothered looking up his age ) He may go out with 2 big names on his record but everyone and himself included knows them names are well past their sell by date.

Should Joe have remained loyal to frank warren? Hmmm, I can see both sides here...there's one part of me that says yeah he should stay loyal to the guy thats helped him make the fortune hes gotten already. And another part is saying its his last fight, his pension so he should cash in cos once this is over I dont think he'll have much contact with warren, no social visits. No Christmas cards or pressies...this is just plain old business. This is nothing more...how many companies would pay millions out to a consultant if they no longer had need of them? And would anyone bat an eyelid at such a thing?

Nobody said they had to be equal partners. Sports Network are a Limited company, so lets say Warren gave Joe 10% of the shares. He would pay Joe a salary & then dividends based on the profits they make as a company.

Despite what we might think of them, Sports Network do a lot of business & I think, in the long term, being a major shareholder in a succesful business is far more lucrative than a one off payment of 2mil. This again leads me back to thinking there is more to this than we are seeing.

Warren is a hard nosed businessman. But I thought he was closer to Calzaghe than all of his other fighters.

I think he was closer to Joe than his other fighters, and perhaps that was why he felt able to take certain liberties with him, thinking it would all be swept under the carpet and they could go back to being happy ever after.

How wrong can you be :rofl

I doubt there's more to it, why would Warren 'GIVE' Calzaghe any share in his business unless he wanted something in return? Warren seems and looks like a total *****, I'd not want to spend anymore time with him than I had to if I was in JC's shoes. He's rich enough not to care, take the big payday and retire in style.

After he stops fighting whats Joe going to do for Sports Network that Warren wants to give him even 10%? In Calzaghes position $2 mil in the pocket is a damn sight better than MAYBE getting 10% off Warren for a few years before being ditched.

If Khan leaves him, 10% (or whatever) of Warrens profits isn't going to amount to much in any case.

Yes fair enough he was probably doing it to keep Joe "on side" but once those shares are given then thats it. Its not as if Warren can steal them back off him. I'm not defending or berating either man here, I'm using objectivity to look at the reasons why Joe has made a seemingly poor business choice.

Yes but if he had any sense he would make sure the deal was all done together so he had the shares at the same time as signing a new deal with Frank.

As for the second bit, I think you'd be surprised at the turnover a company like Sports Network makes. Losing Khan would be a blow but having a 10% stake would still be worth having.

I think I'd take the £2mil and a quiet life rather than have to spend my retirement years watching out for Frank Warren trying to rip me off.

Okay but thats your (maybe mine) opinion but we're talking about Joe here. He knows Frank Warren & if he did indeed feel that way then something must have sparked that distrust after all those years working together in seemingly harmonious circumstances.

So one post called Calzaghes last fight his pension fight

    how sick is that

most people put £10 a week in their pension fund to retire at 65 with a little bit of money

Calzaghe is already a multi millioniare and you still think he needs to secure his pension?

I honestly think its as simple as "Jones + purse + an extra £2 mil" versus "Pavlik + purse + SN shares" and Joe went with the bird in the hand rather than the two in the bush (not to mention the easier fight on paper).

As an aside I was pontificating to myself the other night about when you watch boxing DVDs from from the 80's onwards and in between rounds the camera shows who's at ringside. Have a look who's sitting at ring apron next to Frank Warren and how it changes over the years.....Bruno, Hamed, Hatton, Calzaghe, Khan. It always changes depending on who his main money earner is at that particular time, once your retired you're back at outer ringside.
