He most certainly was.....in his prime.:hey I didn't know until the last few weeks that Eubank stepped in on 2 week notice because Collins pulled out, and that Eubank hadn't fought a serious fight for 2 years previous except for some exhibition bull **** in Dubai.

Eubanks was an AVERAGE fighter. Nothing great about Eubanks, and that's nothing GREAT about Joe.
Instead of coming out of his cushion balmy environment to fight the trulu greats he decided to stay and pad his record fighting less then great opposition. Now his resume is full of them and nothing approaching the greatness of Jones, Hopkins, Toney, or even Traver.

yes, at 175 though, Right?? So in 2 weeks time he also had to shed extra weight beyond his target weight, and still step in having not fought a "Real" fight in 2 years, correct??

31, when you'd been in WARS with Benn etc.. can mean alot more than that # alone suggests, couldn't it?

Plus, training for Joe Calzaghe...and training for ANYONE ELSE ON THE PLANET are two entirely different things...

But it was still a great win. It actually made me a fan of Joe's. Wonderful performance.

Revisionist history tends to discredit Calzaghe's victory over Jeff Lacy - but Lacy was a monster. I watched him knock over every opponent for a two or three year streak until he fought Joe. Lacy was a top US fighter and the only thing standing in between him and potential greatness was Joe Calzaghe and his goddam 1000 punches a round. Calzaghe wrecked Lacy and he was never the same afterwards (as of this writing).

Calzaghe is a great fighter - but so is Bernard Hopkins. That's what makes this such a fantastic fight!
