Great points. Eubanks was the man of steel in his prime. His battles with Benn, Watson, and (from what I hear about) Collins were epic to say the least. The first Benn fight and the second fight with Michael Watson are classic battles featuring brilliant boxing and indefatigable courage. I would list those on any list of all time great fights alongside Leonard-Hearns 1, Pryor-Arguello 1, or Barrera-MOrales 1.

Due to their virtual anonymity in the US, Eubanks, Watson and to a (much) lesser extent Nigel Benn are grossly underrated in terms of class, legacy and all time great status.

32..and Chris Eubank took the fight at two weeks notice..and was also meant to be fighting at Light Heavyweight.

"There where concerns about his weight before the fight"

If you say Eubank was past his prime at 31, then Joe and Hopkins are both well past theirs at 36 and 43

Lacy was NO monster, and he certainly was NO Tyson.
Just the other day I was reading boxing news and noticed another nobody up & comer the press labels, mini-tyson. You feel for the network hype!
Get real. Name one top champion Lacy defeated?
For that matter, name one top champion Calzaghe defeated, or even fought?

That's always been the problem with these Haters....No matter how good they are, if Joe beats them, they were never good at all, or overrated...gesh I mean Lacy and Kessler mauled all their opponents, but as soon as Joe beats them, he gets no credit, they were overrated :fire

What the **** is this **** Eubank is an average fighter? A lot of todays elite at 160-175 must be bums then. His chin was certified granite, and he was unorthodox yet had good skill. The guy was as tough as they come, and went on to drop a close decision to Carl Thompson at cruiserweight right after that damn fight and people talk like he was shot to bits. Nobody mistakes that for a prime Eubank, but people should actually watch that fight before trotting this **** out, Eubank looked good

Calzaghe was green and raw, it was a very good win and one that is continually discredited

Hater? Yes, for hyped fighters and the non-boxing fans that fall for them.

    Up to meeting Calzaghe, Lacy's best wins were over;

    Scott Penberton - Shot journeyman
    Robin Reid - Shot journeyman
    Rubin Williams - Good fighter
    Omar Sheika - Good fighter
    Syd Vanderpool

And a short list of journeymen. His resume reads like Calzaghe's. That of a hyped fighter.

Sorry, I see no Tyson here, or anything else to cause excitement.

Yes, Eubanks was an AVERAGE fighter. You confirm that in your post. Tough, yes, but top 50 journeyman average.
I give much props to Eubanks, but in my book, he's in the same catagory with Omar Sheika, or a Clinton Woods.

IMHO, Calzaghe's fight with Bika showed him to be no more then AVERAGE also.
Sorry, but if you could turn a rabbit into a mink, we'd all be rich.

The fact you describe Robin Reid, a former world champion and a very good if inconsistent fighter as a journeyman sums up your knowledge of European boxing and thus undermines any point you might make

Looks like the form of a hater

Sorry, but Reid won his championships fighting guys like Soon Botes, Mike Gomerly, and Henry Wharton, in the UK.
How many championship matches has he been in? 6-10? All against that level of competition.
Props to Reid, former WBC/WBF champion. But I have to admit, I was never too thrilled about him or Oliver McCall.

Point is, when he met Lacy, he was not the fighter of old, nor was he someone who should have elevated Lacy to STAR status.
You get the point though. A win over Lacy by Calzaghe is hardly a huge boosting point.

I'm glad Tarver took care of it, else you cats would have been pushing Woods as an ATG!
Oops, don't want to talk about that. It's much too close to home cause I would consider Woods a journeyman also, even though at one time, he held a belt.
