    What were we giving Mitchell a chance to do, acquire brain damage?

    He was getting beaten from pillar to post, and got hit by about 20 shots with no reply before staggering across the ring

    The referee's job is to stop the fight before a guy gets seriously hurt

    ya he avoided getting hit by the ibf champ Lacy for 12 rounds and is 44-0 ...but he has no defensive skill. You know nothing.

    It was a WEAK knockdown. Joe was up by the count of 3 man! What are you seeing?

    Yea but Hopkins is old, one of my favorite fighters, but he is getting old and you can tell. Just watch the fight with Winky. Unless Joe turns old, he should be able to outwork hopkins, kind of like Jermain did.

    I saw joe hit the canvas after a flush shot landed. I saw him get up very quickly, but he was certainly dazed and unsure on his feet for few seconds afterwards. Man, it's a KNOCKDOWN.

    I mean, can anyone really dispute the comment I made about quality of opposition? Even if old man river does show up, it's still a step up.

    It's not really about bad quality of opposition. There have been good, legitimate opponents and he made them all look average. Of course he's fought his fair share of bums, but who hasn't? Bernard's certainly foght his fair share also. Now Bernard gets to face someone who's a step up also. He hasn't faced anyone like Calzaghe since he got beaten by Roy Jones.

    Trinidad = small
    Hoya = small
    Wright = small
    Taylor = lost to someone his own size

    Bernard is a natural middleweight. Trinidad, at the time he moved up to middle, took out the other "big" name in th division, Joppy, by a KO.. You may be able to say Hoya was higher than his comfortable class, Trinidad certainly not. Wright causes problems for anyone regards of weight, and both fights with Taylor were extremely close, with Bernard starting slow and closing out the show strong both times (especially second fight).

    Calzaghe has the defensive skill set of Pernell Whitaker. He's a lefty that doesn't take right hands. He knows how to duck the right hand and counter effectively.
    Calzaghe has great defense...
