Perhaps you are reading too much into that.

I doubt he considers most of his previous work to be lacking in skill or talent, I doubt he's putting a specific focus on trying to get flashy. Perhaps he means he's going to try and do this so convincingly his talent and skill will be evident.

Trust me on this, it is you, TFFP, who is reading waaaaay too much into this. Just a straight ahead forensic analysis here will do. No need for any sort of clarification. Nobody here is a mind reader. If you say you don't expect any stylistics or flash that answers the question just fine.

Regardless, it means absolutely nothing. Do you know what he said prior to fighting Hopkins? That he was going to "sit down on his punches".

He infact did the complete opposite. He shortened them and got even less leverage than usual, in an effort to land.

At the end of the day Joe will do whatever he has to do in that ring to win. That's my opinion. Good idea for a thread though, there isn't enough tactical discussion on here, just baiting.

That's what I'm looking for. ^ He's going to do any little bleeding thing he can to win, agreed. However, I see Calzaghe making some effort to earn style points in this fight. I guarantee it.

Well yeah. Jones will probably try and bait him when he realises he's losing rounds on activity. Try and get Joe to lose his head, as I expect Joe to come out in an organised compact way early on.

Joe can get pretty macho, we've seen it countless times. I think back to Mitchell specifically.

That's Jones' hope in this fight. That's the only time I see Joe changing anything, if he feels the need to fire a riposte.

    :patsch :patsch

we're not talking pattycake, here. We're talking hard punch combinations. I suggest you acquaint yourself with roy's speed. Calzaghe could never dream of throwing 5 hard left hooks in one second like in the Brannon fight.

He defintaley doesn't need to do any of those things, certainly, but that hasn't seemed to be the point for Calzaghe throughout his career. He's deeply concerned about looking good in his fights. Nobody focuses more than Joe Calzaghe, afterward, about the quality of a performance. I do agree that he should best focus on his workrate in this fight here, indeed.

Mark my words Calzaghe fights sensibly early on in this fight. I can't believe some people are naive enough to think hes just going to come out sloppy looking for a tearup.

The guy ain't got to 45-0 being a stupid ****. He'll establish a jab and box steady like he usually does early. He knows Jones is at his most dangerous power and speed wise early on with the counters. He'll try to get a couple of rounds in the bank before upping the pressure middle to late.

He knocked both tito and hanshaw down, but yes, I know they aren't in the same echelon of greatness as, say, Tocker Pudwill...
