Details of Joe Calzaghe's much anticipated fight against the veteran American Bernard Hopkins will be officially announced by his promoter, Frank Warren, in London on Tuesday when he will be joined by the undefeated Welshman to plan for Calzaghe's first fight in the US.

One of the major Las Vegas casinos will host the event, which is reported to be taking place on April 12 or 19, and it will be televised live in the UK by Setanta Sports. Another huge contingent of British fans is expected to cross the Atlantic as it did for Ricky Hatton in December when the Mancunian fought Floyd Mayweather.

Unlike Hatton, who was the outsider going into his bout, Calzaghe, 35, is quoted at 1-3 by some bookmakers despite Hopkins, 43, being recognized as the No1 light-heavyweight after defeating Antonio Tarver and Ronald "Winky" Wright.

An impressive list of suitors is lining up to be Calzaghe's opponent in the fight after Hopkins, provided he wins. The middleweights Kelly Pavlik and Jermaine Taylor are believed to be in the frame and the veterans Roy Jones and Felix Trinidad, who fight tomorrow in New York's Madison Square Garden, have both said they would like to challenge for Calzaghe's super-middleweight titles.

Although Jones is demonstrably not the fighter he once was, he has been talking up his contest against Trinidad."Guess who's back, Roy Jones Jr," said Jones, after going through his paces in a public workout. He celebrated his 39th birthday on Wednesday and said: "The best birthday present to me on Saturday night would be to knock him out. Ain't nobody got the speed to handle me. Only Floyd Mayweather comes close and he's still 10 miles an hour slower than me. "

It's about time it was "offically" announced... It's been at 99% done for about a month and a half.

Even though Calzaghe will have to fight the judges, ref and commentators, he should still win.

frank said that the fight will not be on the date that has been rumoured, and urged people not to buy plane tickets until it has been announced.
