Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzaghe have said all along they wanted to fight each other, and it appears the two champions will get their wish.

MGM Mirage has set aside April 12 at Mandalay Bay Events Center for Hopkins-Calzaghe. All that remains is for the attorneys for both fighters to approve the contracts.

The fight would be for Hopkins' Ring Magazine light heavyweight title and would be televised on HBO Pay Per View.

Frank Warren, the veteran British promoter who represents world super middleweight champion Calzaghe, said a deal is imminent.

"Nothing can ever be definite until the contracts are signed," Warren told The Guardian newspaper in London. "But the paperwork is with the lawyers, and it looks as though it will be done.

I'm assuming this fight will be at a catch weight of 170? Or is Joe C going up to 175?

I'll believe it when I see it. Benard will come up with a reason for it not to happen.

people being said Hopkins is old for a lot of years now, I wonder at what year he will retire. I'm starting to think that he is from a NASA experiment or something, he sure is a legend, Im' not sure if he will win against JC but being a top contender at the age of 42 or 43 is amazing.

It really is amazing. I mean the guy just turned 43 and he's still a P4P fighter. And we are not talking about a HW here who can get fat and add weight. We are talking about a lower class weight where you need to stay in tip top shape. That is amazing in itself.

Don't be so harsh on Bernard

After 6 years he has finally plucked up the courage now that a loss means nothing

Prince of Wales, Italian Dragon, Stallion or whateva... So you all can see that it was all about promoting a Las Vegas fight. There was no need to suggest a Yankee Stadium fight and put yourself up there with Ray Robinson and Joey Maxim. There was no need for the McCarthysm witch hunt for B-Hop's offense to the morale of all caucasian fighters around the world - like boxing would turn into a policial state with neighbourhood FBI officers around the corner prepared to blow an industrial-size horn to call foul everytime a fighter steps on the line with every sexual, racial or political offense - ABSOLUTELY UNNECESSARY & HYPOCRITICAL FOLKS...

Ive been wanting this fight for over 5 years now and although I think this fights was much better on paper 3 years ago, it is still the best fight out there for Joe to take. Yes Hop is 43, but he is the Ring Champ and even an old Hopkins is better than the rest of the 175ers. Plus he is the 'name' JC has been looking for aswel as the second title in a second weight division.
