Warren: Calzaghe-Hopkins done! Looks like WBC/WBA/WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe and longtime former middleweight champ Bernard Hopkins are good to go in an April light heavyweight clash, but the bout appears headed to Las Vegas instead of New York City's Yankee Stadium as originally discussed. "The deal's done and will be confirmed with the venue and date next week," Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren told the South Wales Argus. "The talks with Hopkins' representatives are almost over, and I've been told it's on April 12. The venue is not set in stone but it does look like the fight will be in Las Vegas." The leading candidates to host the event are reportedly the MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay. Saturday, January 12 2008 Let's get it on!!!!! :thumbsup
Sorry - but I don't see it that way. B-Hop by UD - in a very entertaining fight. I do believe that unlike other's - Joe's going to make the fight - but it's not going to be enough to get the win.
You guessing corrupt judging?! Thats the only way Mary wins, Joe is that good, BHOP will lose april 12th, you've been warned:good
Just so that I dont have to type it all out again :good This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
I remember this from a couple of days ago - there's some good points there - but still doesn't change how I feel about the outcome of the fight. B-Hop owns Southpaws and damn near every time you go against him - he proves you wrong. I don't see this any other way. Someone said Joe is just that good -OK - I'll give you that - but when did B-Hop stop being good? I take nothing away from Joe - I like him just as much as any other boxer. I just don't see him beating B-Hop. There's going to be and has been a lot of back and forth about this - but that's what makes it exciting and interesting. So fight on people.
Aside from posting the obvious "Calzaghe UD", I'd just like to say I'm pleased the fight is close to being a reality.
Of the southpaws HOP has "owned" none have been of the caliber of Joe C, none had the movement, speed, ring craft, adaptability of Joe C, so although initially it looks like a good indicater, I could say the same for Joe "owning" everyone he has ever faced, you cant say that of Bhop
Hopkins will clown on joe. Joe's lack of good competition shows up in this one when he is facing a truely great fighter that can make you miss and pay dearly.
He makes you pay dearly?? What with his 6 punches a round? I agree, he is master of being elusive and crafty/making you miss/look bad, but joe will work him out, and then it will be BHOP's turn to PAY:hey
Ok joe fans just because you want this to happen does not change the fact that joe has never beat anyone of significance. Look its not that I want hopkins to win I just know he is going to because he his head and shoulders above calzache, who would have lost to winky also.
Winky Wright is a great fighter, far more accomplished than Kessler is likely to ever be. I think Calzaghe is the favorite, but Hopkins is going to get his licks in. I think Joe sometimes loses focus after he throws his combinations, and loses focus late in fights. Keeps his hands down and looks a little, admiring his work. He gets away with it because he dazzles his opponents and gets them confused and discouraged. Hopkins never gets confused or discouraged, he's probably the clearest thinking fighter I've ever seen, and he's going to be waiting all night for his sneaky rights, which he'll land many times. That sneaky right is unstoppable, and Joe will overcommit and get caught with it many times. Now, I don't think Hopkins will land enough of them, and I don't think he can knock Calzaghe out with them, but I really think Hopkins will get at least one knockdown when Joe is stuck in no man's land and squared up after a combination. My most likely scenario is Joe early, with Hopkins taking the momentum with his clear thinking in the late rounds and scoring a late knockdown. Something like 115-112. Looking forward to it.
