Your remark is open to such criticism. If you're going to level that criticism at Hopkins, do it to Hagler. I don't feel either deserve criticism (Hopkins/Hagler), but if you're going to criticize one, then you must do the same for the other.
I wouldn't compare Hagler to Hopkins though cos in my mind Hagler is the much more revered and legendary fighter If Calzaghe fought a welter you know yourself you would knock him down for doing so
1. Hagler is more revered/legendary because he is retired. His career is over, and people are able to appreciate him. One important thing to remember is that popular opinion does not make something what it is. Being more revered does not make one above equal criticisms. I don't see why Hagler should not be compared to Hopkins or vice versa. 2. First of all, Calzaghe has weighed 168lbs for his career. Hopkins has weighed 160lbs. So, the jump from Welterweight to Middleweight is not as drastic as from Welterweight to Super Middleweight. Hopkins fought top tier former Welterweights, not bums. Trinidad was undefeated. Edit: Oh, and the fights with Trinidad and De La Hoya unified titles. How do you criticize someone for unifying titles?
Hell no. There is not gonna be a KO here. If it is i expect it to be Calzaghe. I dont think Hopkins can get Kod by Calzaghe but Hopkins could take Calzaghe out. Im thinking this is gonna be a hard fought 12 round fight. Which Calzaghe takes by a small margin. A ref stoppage could happen MAYBE if Calzaghe swarms Hopkins but Hopkins is much too good for that.
I'm always balanced in my views when making serious posts. And discerning the difference between the two is no difficult feat.
It's always hard (for me at least) to get beyond the "who can KO who" hype in fights like these. Bottom line, both men have very solid chins, and neither man is a true KO puncher, at least not at this point in their careers. Hopkins might stun Calzaghe (and vice versa of course), but I highly doubt the old man has the gas left to put him away (see the Tarver fight). And if Joe ends up dominating the fight, I could see him wanting to put on a Lacy-like show instead of opening himself up for counters. Really, anything under -300 is a very cheap tag for the over prop. I think I saw -265 the other day, which surprised me some.
Agreed, except I don't think Hopkins ran out of gas against Tarver. I think he was probably carrying him a bit in the later rounds.
That's fair. Probably a better example is the first Taylor fight, where he really need a KD and couldn't summon one. He was definitely gassed in that one.
I am interested in seeing how much pop Calzaghe has atthe new weight. Also he may be more confident in his hands with the new Reyes gloves. **** it, I am going to put $100 on Calzaghe knocking out the old ****er.
