lewis didn't had either, but he had 10.000 coming over. Tickets will be relatively cheap in yankees stadium. So expect some americans too. They can do 25000/30000 easily
When the fight is confirmed and both guy's sign their names to it, then we'll see where it's at, i thought Vegas would make more sense than New York, especially in April when the Weather is iffy?:-( i just hope it comes off, Hopkins at 43 can't afford to wait any longer..
I'll be coming over and I reckon 10,000+ will make the trip. I think this will be a far tougher fight for Joe than people this side of the pond are expecting though. However can I please pose this question to the B-Hop fans....... With one of Hopkins biggest attributes being his ability to nulify his opponents main weapon - how will he try to combat Joe sheer volume of punches and his workrate ??
I would bet my house too.........if it's in foreclosure, or one of those crazy loans that's rearing its ugly head now
Both of the NY baseball stadiums (Yankees Stadium and Shea Stadium) are closing. However, Yankee Stadium won't be demolished until 2009, and the Yankees will play their home games there for all of 2008. I doubt the fight ends up in YS either way though. Both fighters would probably make more money if it was at a different venue. Can't charge nearly as much per seat at an open stadium.
The thing is, Ricky Hatton is an extension of the Manchester City football franchise. He fights in their colours, he comes out to their theme song, **** his dad used to PLAY for Man City. So he gets the same sort of hardcore die-hard support as the football club. Doesnt matter where, doesnt matter when, doesnt matter how much it costs or how many of them there are, they will still turn up in their thousands, drink the place dry and make noise. Thats why you get booing national anthems, something I wholeheartedly encourage INCLUDING my own ****-poor national anthem, because its a football tradition. Joe Calzaghe is a well-known fighter, and has a big fanbase here too, but there's no way he gets the same amount of support as Ricky Hatton. Ricky Hatton is a working-class folk-hero in Manchester who is absolutely idolised, whereas Calzaghe has spent the best part of his career fighting unknowns and bums on Sky, which has harmed his potential marketability. If they're gonna get the stadium in the hope that they'll pull in 50,000 fans I think they'll be disappointed. The Calzaghe fans dont have the same mentality as the Hatton fans, who are used to travelling in numbers to away football games, and I dont think any more than 10,000 would come accross the pond. Thats still pretty impressive, but if Hatton - Mayweather had been held in Yankee stadium you'd have got 50,000+ going to see him.
I disagree, I dont think that Calzaghe's fans are as fanatical as Hatton's, Hatton is supported like a premiership football club which is why he can bring so many fans, I dont see that type of interest in Calzaghe. He may have more casual fans, and you may argue that Hatton's fans are more football fans, or just mancunians sticking up for their own, but he doesn't get the sheer love and devotion that Ricky gets, despite being a better boxer.
