It's a truth in a sense and the first thing people will look at are the results but even the record books report disputed decisions and fouls after a hundred years

    My top 5 Hopkins performances:

    1. Roy Jones (respectable loss against one of the best ever in his prime)
    2. Calzaghe (I gave Calzaghe just about every round, but still great from Bernard)
    3. Pavlik (showed what happens when a one dimensional fighter comes up against a complete and knowledgable fighter)
    4. Tarver (similar to above)
    5. Johnson/Tito (someway behind - Johnson was beaten soundly by Ottke/ Tito great but not at MW)

    Calzaghe:

    1. Kessler (Kessler was very good - Calzaghe threw both slaps and punches)
    2. Lacy (Immense performance, pure display of brilliance)
    3. Hopkins (I assumed Calzaghe was shot after this, then Hopkins went on to... I gave Calzaghe most round against this illusionist
    4. Eubanks (very good green performance)
    5. Veit I (destructive)

Ok cool i'll check some of his fights out and Roy I've watched a few of his already. It's funny but when a fight like Roy and Tito get shown on your TV for people who have never seen them it puts you off chasing fights down or taking the time to watch them.I mean Tito looked like a bum really and flattered Roy enough to get a shot at Calzaghe

1- Tito came in at 158...Hop at 157.
2- Oscar came in at 160...Hop at 154.
3- Vs Tarver, Hop was the naturally smaller man.
4- Vs Pavlik, Hop was the naturally smaller man.
5- Winky esentially fought his entire career at 154, Hop his at 160. They are naturally 6 pounds apart, both fighting above their respective best weights (and Winky is also 6 years Bernard's junior).

Now...what about Johnson? Who spent most of his career above 160? Doesnt this, by your standards make Hop the naturally smaller man?

There was the little known MW back in the 80s who was pretty good (you should look him up)...his name was Marvin Hagler. Many consider him to be one of the 3 greatest MWs of all time. His best wins were against a former WW and a former LW...and many people feel he got robbed vs another former WW. Other than these two, his resume is very good, not great.

So tell me again about the weight differences between Hop and his opponents?

Pavlik and Tarver are examples of what happens when "a one dimensional fighter comes up against a complete and knowledgable fighter"...but Lacy was an "Immense performance, pure display of brilliance"?

Yes but the thing is the Lacy mauling was an amazing display wasn't it,I agree the Pavlik one was great too but looks matter don't they not every one wants to interpret and analyse the display in front of them sometimes you need to stick it down their throats

    Very good post.

Reasoned argument and very close to my own outlook.

I think you somewhat underrate his win over Tarver, but that's a detail.

I made a very similar point in a Sue's second thread in early 07 and we want at it tooth and nail for about 10 lengthy posts each.

(It all got lost in the great crash of mid 2007).

And I must applaud Sue's comebacks here and his carefully argued counterpoints, unlike some of the drivel that appears in these situations.

I perceive both of you to be relatively unbiased posters with good boxing knowledge and analytical skills, and both articulate.

There ought to be some means of sifting the pair of you (and a number of other similar posters) from the great mass of the unwashed in the General forum, and creating a sub-forum of knowledgeable, civilized posters.

One where everyone could read the posts, but only the worthy could actually post.

But maybe that's too elitist !

Good work, both of you !

Listen, Calzaghe is one of my favorite all time fighters. I actually won a nice chunk of change on his fantastic performance against Lacy. My point was, calling Pavlik and Tarver nothing more than one dimensional fighters and then lauding over the Lacy win is bias.

Which CHJ totally fessed up to afterward....and like I said, fair enough!

My point was, all three performances were ATG displays. Nothing should be taken away from any of them (same should be said about Tito and Johnson as well!).
