JOE CALZAGHE’S fight with Bernard Hopkins will get official lift-off in Las Vegas on Friday when the date of their April 19 showdown is confirmed.

Calzaghe’s team have twice been forced to move the date of the light-heavyweight superfight because other major bouts are scheduled for April 5 and 12.

Las Vegas will be the first stop on a promotional tour that will also take in Los Angeles and New York with the UK legs being held in London and Cardiff.

Meanwhile, in New York, Roy Jones Jnr stepped up his bid to fight Calzaghe as he overcame fellow veteran Felix Trinidad.

Jones, 39, said: “I’m definitely looking to make that fight and I’m going to Wales tomorrow.

“I’ll fight anybody, anywhere, any time and if Hopkins-Calzaghe finishes how I think it will, I’ll even go to Wales and fight.”

Jones twice knocked down 35-year-old Puerto Rican Trinidad, who himself had come out of a near three-year retirement, to win a unanimous decision after 12 rounds.

He does have a point. The fight should have happened years ago. But Hopkins was just establishing himself as a mjor name after whupping Tito and Joe was busy beating up cans to the merry tune of the WBO. Now both are old men but Joe is on the better side of 40.

Yea...the same logic when people say Hopkins is scared of Calzaghe, yet at 43 will be fighting him when he's at the top of his game :nut

Hopkins is not "scared" of fighting Calzaghe. He just know's he will lose Hopkins is not a coward he just does not want to get shut down.

Your logic was flawed as hell man, :good

 it was more to the other posters on this thread. People not giving Hopkins a chance than say he's scared, the fight comes through, yet he's still got no chance and chickened out of a fight 6 years ago when Joe was a nobody :huh

I know full well who Kessler is. Just repeating what Hopkins said in their face to face meeting. It's true though Kessler is not on Hopkins level period.

Kessler is not on the level of prime Hopkins now Kessler is easily on a level.

I give Hopkins very little chance to win more than 3 rounds let alone the fight. I do not think he is scared of the pain. I think he just know's that he is going to get batterd and does not want to be embarresd :good

Boxing skill is not even close. Kessler is severely one dimensional kind of fighter, isn't that why some were so adamant that Joe was going to do a number on him? Winky, Tarver were both P4P rated fighters.

A lot of people will be picking Joe to win, I'm not too fussed. Give Hopkins credit though, he's fought and seeked the best.
