bhop did not do enough to win...i wish he did seeing how cocky joe is as of late but the truth is he slapped his way to a win...close but he def won on my card
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWNatsch Old news:nut cali won:deal and rightfully so!!! Nard didn';t do jack **** the 2nd half of the fight...
Round 1- 10 Bernard with KD, most everything else even 8 Round 2- 10 Bernard landing good right hands 9 Round 3- 10 Bernard still landing the only significant punch with the counter-right hand 9 Round 4- 10 for Calzaghe. He starts to land his jab while Bernard starts too thrown fewer 9 and miss more right hands Rounds 5 thru 9- The same pattern. all for Calzaghe. He is the aggressor and lands more straight jabs and left hands as Bernard can't land more than 2 or 3 rights a rounds and his timing and stamina are decreasing. Round 10-Bernard gets this one by looking a bit more energized after getting 5 min rest and lands some more good right hands. Round 11-Bernard carries some energy from the last round but only lands one decent right hand. Calzaghe takes with ring generalship with punches that are thrown wide but score. Calzaghe takes the round even though he gets away from the straight jab and right hand because bernard can't time and good rights which results in less effective agression. Round 12-Bernard still looks a bit less tired than rounds 4 thru 9. Both land about equal straight effective shots but when they windmill Calzaghe lands more due to faster hands. Round for Calzaghe. Bernard shows slightly more energy or maybe urgency the last three rounds but has trouble timing the right hand counter except in round 10. Calzaghe by 115 to 112 I have watched the fight quite a bit and it is not a fight that can be scored casually. Very hard to score. Takes a lot of focus like Taylor/Hopkins (which I had each winning a fight a piece by a couple points).
No doubt. Even the Calz hardcores just about had to give Hops rds 1-4 including the KD, shits to me was a draw with the KD being the difference. Hops 114-113. NO kd and that **** would have been a draw.:yep But I'm no professional scorrer either, just a fans opinion.
Man if he'd fought like he did against Pavlik, who knows. How can Hops run out of gas and need breaks and **** (alleged faked low blows etc) throwin 4-5 punches a round against Calz, then be firing like mad 50 punches a round and constantly moving (fast) when it came to Pav.
This fight is being discussed at this late date, for one reason, and one reason only; Hopkins introduced the race card. You get in the face of a great caucasian boxer like the low-keyed Joe and tell him REPEATEDLY, I will never lose to a white BOY then the proverbial **** hits the fan. Joe simply replied by outworking and frankly, at times humiliating Popkins in that fight. Good grief, when Popkins gassed in the later rounds and started faking lowblows Joe actually positioned himself behind Bernard and simulated anal sex, essentially making this proud warrior his *****. A classic case of underestimating an opponent based on stereotypical, outdated modes of thinking. Skin pigmentation has nothing to do with boxing ability. Nuff said!!!
I dont think ive ever known anyone people were so ****ing desperate to undermine and discredit than Calzaghe. These constant threads are becoming pitiful. He won. Move on.
They will never move on. After all a great caucasian fighter, born in Wales dominates the supermiddleweight division for a decade, cleans it out with phenomenal performances against young terrors like Lacy and Kessler??? Come on now!!! How dare he be born outside of the great U.S.A. Then he comes to the great U.S.A. and brutalizes two of America's greatest in Hopkins and Jones. This is just too much!! Wrong nationality, wrong skin pigmentation. He must be a fraud. No, actually he is just that damn good.
Really neither fighter was at they're best for the fight but in my break down earlier I had it 115-112 Calzaghe, and have watched the fight very closely enough times to be pretty confident in it. I am a big fan of both but never saw either look that bad once before. I believe both would fight better in a rematch. I would prefer each one take on one more good prime fighter then retire after a rematch later this year. I personally find it very impressive both are still near the top of the sport at they're current ages.
