"Boxing isn't about throwing 1000+ punches a fight. I'm going to show my boxing skills and footwork in this fight (against Roy Jones)." Joe Calzaghe, Calzaghe/Jones 24/7 Episode 1

I bet you he is blowing smoke, the way we know he is going to beat Roy is through volume punching plus, his boxing skills didn't look too hot against Bernard.

Joe is about output. He is not exceptional in any other area.

I say this as a fan.

However, his work ratio is not equalled p4p by anyone in boxing over the past 20 years (at least).

He already showed extraordinary footwork against Hopkins, he also cut his punch output.

I think his footwork is absolutely fantastic. Especially the Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins fights.

I know it's Jeff Lacy, but watch the third round. Calzaghe is hitting him with 4-5 punch combos then he's behind Lacy, repeatedly, to which Duke McKenzie said "He's boxing his head off" and John Rawling said "He's giving him a boxing lesson."

Also the Kessler fight, rounds 5-10, Kessler can barely get near him.

    Joe has exceptional output.

Really good speed (was one of the fastest at SMW).

    Great fluent footwork.

    Great punch variety.

However, truely exceptional is only his output.

Are you smoking that ****? The guy has **** poor balance and his footwork was **** compared to Hopkins. He just bounces in and bounces out uncoordinated. Thats why he got caught and put on his ass.

Joe already started to explain why he lost the fight.

Yeah his footwork is great but boxing skills aren't super fantastic but, he won't really need awesome skills to beat Jones.

Its not going to be that hard for him..Roy is pretty much just going to be on the ropes for 90% of the fight anyway.

I think Joe knows that he may not need his strongest weapon in this fight. Therefore this is a chance to show off other stuff to make people think he doesn't rely on output. Well, he does rely on output. And ther is nothign wrong with that - so far it has served Joe well.

If Joe has outstanding footwork why did he often times lose his balance against Hopkins?? At the end of round 7, Joe was hit with yet another right hand by Hopkins that almost put him on his back again. It was mainly due to him being open due to his bad footwork.

I'm glad CAL knows the reason he got that decision as he said was mainly due to the "slapping" "pitter patter" punches.

Yes, that was the reason he won the fight.

And that was also the reason why he was off balance. Joe gladly trades balance for output. All is about output and therefore he will gladly throw whether he is in balance or not. It works.
