Calzaghe is a warrior but he needs to re-think fighting Pavlik.

Having seen Pavlik's performance on Saturday night, and being a huge Calzaghe supporter, I think Joe needs to seriously re-think before signing as I believe it will be his only loss.

    Opinions?

What seeing Pavlik KTFO of Lockett makes you think he'll beat Calzaghe?

My opinion is that beating the crap out Lockett should worry Calzaghe as much as Pavlik should be worried after watching Calzaghe batter Tocker Pudwill.

Lockett was domestic level in Britain and not seen as the best even at that level. It was a total mismatch and taught us absolutely nothing new about Pavlik.

Fair points actually. I still think Calzaghe needs to be worried. Pavlik's got a lot of power He does leave himself open at times but those right hands are nasty!

My opinion is that if you think Pavlik bashing up a borderline top 5 (of a pretty poor selection) UK middleweight is relevant to a fight against one of the top two P4P boxers in the World, you need to seriously re-think before pressing 'submit' in future.

I once saw Enzo Calzaghe say that Joe would only retire if he knew someone had the beating of him. If he decided he was slipping and didn't want to fight on I would understand that at his age.

If he took the fight against Pavlik I would take that as a sign he is very confident of winning it. I would trust his judgement.

Brilliant fight, cant wait to see so many Pavlik lovers eating crow though....

Pavlik's right hand isnt just good its unbelievable, his power is abnormal, when his punches only just make the target with hardly any follow through they still shake you down to your ancestors....

Which is all good for him and will help him plough his way through MW / SM divisions. Good coz i like the guy and look forward to watching his fights, love to see him and kessler get it on, proper good fight that.

He aint beating Joe though, no way, he WILL land right hands on Joe and if he can get a few going he in with chance of knocking Joe out, but like 'Benj' said Joe will make relevant adjustments after two or three land and Pavliks chance will be gone, JC by UD. spot on call.

Yep he has great power. So did Lacy in his left hook. The two are totally different fighters but the hype and the predictions are very similar. "Joe was dropped by Salem, imagine what the **** will happen when Lacy lands"...it presumed that being dropped is the same as being nearly KO'd...it isn't. And it presumed that Lacy would just be able to land easily...he couldn't.

Now we see..."If Hopkins could drop him with a right hand imagine what Pavlik will do."
It makes similar assumptions, such as that Pavlik throws a right hand like Hopkins does...he doesn't. Hopkins throws it with more disguise and it is quicker.
It also presumes that Calzaghe would rush Pavlik like he did Hopkins...why would be? He was not worried about Hopkins' power and knew that the best way to beat Bernard is not to stand on the outside and box him, but to pressure him and outwork him.

If he fights Pavlik he will know the best way is to negate the slower mans jab and box him, counter punch the wide and predictable 1-2s and tag him with the left straight down the pipe. Throw the uppercut when Pavlik closes the ground and trys to go to the body.

We will see...Pavlik will certainly put Joe under pressure and he can certainly hurt him. I simply don't see him landing anyway near enough and being able to avoid being jabbed and countered to death to win the fight.

Calzaghe wont fight Pavlik - he knows he'll lose his precious "0" if he does. And remember - Calzaghe is a Warren fighter and has avoided fighters in their prime all his career - hes certainly not going to face one now hes on the decline.

He'll fight RJJ, beat him, and get undue credit for beating a great fighter when hes shot.

Let's not forget that Pavlik has a very questionable chin. If Zuniga, McKart & Taylor can hurt and knock him down, then imagine what....ect, etc, etc....;)

Calzaghe slaps most of the time these days, but if he were to land a solid blow and get Pavlik going I think the outcome at the higher weight would be different to the Taylor fight.

Calzaghe has made a good account for himself over the last couple of years. It would be totally understandable for him to cash out against a washed up geriatric in the form of Roy Jones Jr. There's really no need for him to risk getting his face rearranged by a young, strong, relentless fighter like Pavlik. Calzaghe has had a great career. He should fight Roy so that he can leave with his undefeated record, and more importantly, his health.

Ah yes, all those prime fighters that Calzaghe avoided. Um, who were they again?
