Calzaghe is a warrior but he needs to re-think fighting Pavlik.

It is true with him. He can say whatever he wants but he is so easy to see through. He started a thread saying he wanted people to respect what a warrior Carl Thompson had been, but the whole post was written about Thompson being past it and written off before the Haye fight and it was all just a vehicle to post Hayes loss and have a dig at him.

Then he writes supposedly fair and balanced posts about Calzaghe having every right to retire but throws in "he is in his rights to fight a geriatric like RJJ" and then how there is no need for him to "get his face rearranged".

He just writes attacks in a more veiled way and trys to sneak in slurs and jibes by surrounding it with fake respectful language.

Yes exactly. From what I saw of him in the ring, he looked very good, the technique, the speed, etc. Obviously we didn't see that go over 2 rounds to be honest so a fair judgement on these can't be made in relaiton to the stamina required over 12 rounds.

I accept that. I also see him as an immense hard worker and like the American version of Calzaghe in many ways - he has a lot of heart, proven by his win over the first fight against Taylor and people question his chin - Hopkins had Calzaghe on the floor with a sneaky right. I'm sure a talented 26 year old Pavlik can give Calzaghe a lot of problems.

Then again, Joe has experience on his side apart from being an amazing athelete but I just have a feeling Pavlik is bad news.

So let me get this straight. You think Joe shouldn't take the fight, because he might lose? Who are you? Frank warren?

Calzaghe would win this as long as he still has his legs, which have slipped some and could fall off precipitously at any moment.

Kelly struggled in Taylor II because Jermain forced him to box, taking advantage of Pavlik's slow feet and tagging him with combinations. When Jermain actually threw punches, he did very well. Of course, he lacks stamina, and eventually he faded.

Calzaghe won't stop throwing and moves much more consistently and deceptively than Taylor. He also throws better combinations and has a better chin and greater experience.

All bets are off if he loses his legs, though. Without them, his defensive flaws will be hanging out there waiting to be exploited.

Otherwise, expect a clear 8-4 decision and a disappointing night for the American. Kessler would have a pretty good shot against him as well, and Chad Dawson would be a clear favorite over Pavlik at 175.

I like Kelly, but he is becoming vastly overrated on this forum.

Uh, you're basing this off of Saturday night? Don't tell me you actually expected a competitive fight.

Excellent post. I've said Pavlik KO10 Calzaghe for a long time. Pav would probably be behind on the cards, but the judges will become irrelevant by the end of 10.

Thompson was past it, and many people did write him off. It was amazing to see the old lion take out the young lion like that. It was no knock on Haye.

Jones is a geriatric. He's pushing 40. Calzaghe must also be worried about getting his face rearranged as he and Warren keep downplaying Pavlik, and Calzaghe said he prefers to fight Jones.

I'm getting tired of these unneccesary personal attacks from you. I have a lot of respect for Haye and Calzaghe and resent your implications. Yes, I'm more inclinded to back U.S fighters. But that's for two main reasons; A, I get to see them fight more than Euros, and B, they're generally more talented than Euros. However, I'm trying to get more familiar with European fighters. I even started a thread asking people to name good, young U.K fighters. There is a lot of friction on this forum between U.S and U.K posters. Much of that friction is present because of posters like yourself who misinterpret peoples' posts and then resort to name calling and personal attacks because they don't like what they're reading.

My mistake. I don't have a direct quote. However, I do have a quote from an article.

So I don't have a direct quote, but the arthur of this article does have Calzaghe on record as saying he would prefer to fight Jones. Either that or the guy is lying.

Yes I've seen that. As I posted in another thread, The Mirror is not a reliable source for anything.

To my knowledge Calzaghe has expressed no public preference with regard to his next opponent at this stage.

He is on record as saying he had no interest in fighting Jones (in his autobiography), however that's not to say he wouldn't have changed his mind. He certainly sounded open to the idea after the Hopkins fight, he has also mentioned Pavlik as a potential opponent previously.

Pavlik's punches are anything but wide, He throws that right straight down the pipe. Also if joe wants to win I think he has to get inside, Pavlik is verry good at range and he controls distance exceptionally well. At this point though I have a hard time going agianst Calzaghe, he always seems to find a way to win.

Yes it is. It's by far the most accurate red top in Britain and is a good source of information. They rarely get things wrong and certainly aren't the type of newspaper to make stuff up.

I love Pavlik, but this is the truth right here. So far on ESB according to some of his diehard fansboys, he KO's Abraham, Kessler, Calzaghe and Dawson.

I'd bet everything I have, in all honesty, that he's guaranteed to have at least one loss against all those fighters.
