Absoloutely, at this point Joe's already earned his place amongst hardcore boxing fans. The only reason he'd need to fight Hops in the U.S is to build his profile there and earn more money in the states, but if he'll get more money fighting Clinton Woods in the UK, what the hell does he need Hopkins for? Nobodies going to give him credit for fighting an old man, it'd look weak compared to the win over Kessler. Hopkins is there for the taking for a lot of 168-175s' elite, let him do a pension tour (Tito, RJJ), earn a few pay cheques and some more deluded accolades.
These guys need each other. Neither is an ATG at this point. If this fight fails to materialize both legacies are tarnished unless one comes out looking like the fight dodger.
He also dismissed a possible bout against IBF light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods saying "While Clinton has a title, he is not a big name and will not get American TV excited and I want to keep them happy as that's where the money is.":-( This content is protected
He and Frank Warren have said that the Kessler fight was the biggest fight in boxing. If that is the case then he'd expect to get a bit less for a fight with Hopkins. Especially if he's moving up in weight to be the challenger.
The fact that GBP made Calzaghe an offer and he reject it proves that Bhop is not avoiding Calzaghe. Unless you have Concrete (Truth) that states otherwise.
nly This is clearly not true. He has only kept American TV happy twice and HBO were not as interested in the Kessler fight as FW assumed they would be. It's like Hatton not fighting Witter because "the Americans are not interested" and then fighting Urango and Collazo.
