Of course he is,Jones is old now and lost his legs.Handspeed is the only thing Roy still has and even that has diminished a bit. Is Calzaghe prime for prime a better fighter than Roy?hell no....but financially this is the most lucrative fight for Joe so i understand it. Calzaghe by easy UD now Jones by easy UD 5 prime for prime.
Roy's hands are still as fast as Joe C's (if not faster). Roy hits harder by a fair margin. Roy's reflexes are adequate. Roy ain't gonna have to find Calzaghe (thus foot speed ain't too much of an issue). The constant barrage of Calazaghe (tho weak) will force Roy to open up and he will put a hurting on Calzaghe and make it a close fight that jones will have a good chance to win.
its funny how about 2 years ago nobody talks about calzaghe now he is being put above RJJ and hopkins who people have talked about for almost a decade. the thing that he did in just 2 years has done more than RJJ and hopkins did in over 10 years
Just what did Calzaghe do in the last two years that was greater than any thing that Jones and Hopkins have done in the last 10 years?
It simple, Calzaghe is on his career pick right now, Hopkins is 100 years old and Jones is shot .... thats the difference now. Its not like Calzaghe is fighting prime Jones or Hopkins 5 years ago. So I clearly see Jones head being slapped away and bouncing all over the ring from corner to corner.
Calzaghe is going to lose and never fight the same again ... he might even retire depending on how bad he gets knocked out and how deep Roy takes him before he knocks him out. You guys have tjo think about this ... the guys that KO'd Jones were beasts ... Glenn Johnson and Antonio Tarver and good pressure fighters and are animals ... those guys aren't easy to back up and i'm sure that both those guys beat Calzaghe in the same fashion as they did Jones. Calzaghe will taste the same fate as Hatton, Hamed, Woods, and Lockett ... Exposure is the key ... Roy has nothing to lose ... everyone already thinks he's done and overlooking him ... Calzaghe has never faced a fighter as skilled as Jones ...
Even an out of prime Jones, which you call "shot" won't be getting slapped around the ring. This version of Jones still beats Joe.
Can someone please explain to me how Roy has lost it? ... he got KO'd and now he's finished. Alot of great boxers have gotten knocked out ... he's still fast, he's still strong, and he's still very skilled ... I don't know how those things still being apart of Jones' fighter "make up" can contribute to him being "shot" ... Jones only lost to two guys out of 56 total fights ... 52-3 ... I don't count that Montell Griffin DQ ... Thats not the record of a shot fighter ... Jones is on a whole nother level than Hopkins and considering how Hopkins faired against Calzaghe doesn't say much about Calzaghe. and Hopkins knocked him down --
Tarver was coming down from 210-215 pounds ... he was basically a HW when he was filming "Rocky Balboa" ... he came down and lost 30 pounds of muscle ... he just looked lethargic ... I didn't see Hopkins dominating him ... I didn't see Hopkins hurting him.
I think that the problem with Jones is more mental than physical, being knocked out in back to back fights really hurt his level of confidence.
30 lb of muscles ... gosh how much Tarver packed up to fight 60 year old Balboa :rofl If you haven't seen Hopkins dominating Tarver you been the one who was lethargic ... Hopkins embarassed Tarver that night.
Mental ... Okay ... I can roll with that, but its for damn sure not anything physical. But getting knocked out is always in the back of someone's mind ... I don't know how much it effected him because he went on and fought after getting knocked out by Tarver ... then went on to fight again after he got knocked out by Johnson ... and to show how much of a dog Roy is ... he has yet to take a long layoff and he's yet to fight a 10 rounder. I like the fact that he stayed low key for a short while fighting Badi Ajamu and Hanshaw ... then coming to fight Tito on PPV.
