I can appreciate it as a boxing fan, due to it being a great display by Joe in what was thought to be a relatively even fight going in, but it was way too one-sided to be of great entertainment to me in the way a more evenly matched bout might be, and to be truthful I was a bit sickened near the end and thought Lacy's corner should have pulled him out as he had zero chance of winning and was taking a sustained beating.

 

That's because you didn't follow his career until '06, there's a reason his career was a joke coming into the Lacy fight

 

I've seen floyd mayweather

 

he's as bad as Joe for fighting hand-picked, over the hill name only fighters

 

yeah castillo, corrales, hatton, cotto, ortiz, marquez

 

Castillo was an average titleholder who has been retrospectivley overrated based on the fact he BEAT Floyd and got robbed

Corrales, a very good win, ill give him that

Hatton, an overrated 140lb fighter blown up to 147

Cotto, Over the hill, taken two brutal shellackings in recent fights

Ortiz, overrated bottle job

Marquez, Blown up two divisions

Any more??

Floyd is a very good fighter but he's hardly taken the tough tests imo, he's manufactured.

So just to clafiy, there are people on here who actually think that Calzaghe is the best British boxer of all time and that he is also better than Mayweather.:yikes

 

Some respectable posts from some respected posters sadly you are all wrong, Calzaghe was not special, he was a good fighter without doubt but his style and showboating means I could not and never will like him or accept him as some sort of great.

 

Calzaghe, his promoter and his "fans" are everything that is wrong with boxing.

 

Im curious as to how Froch can all of a sudden be flavour of the month and yet fans still question Calzaghe ?

Surely nobody thinks Froch would beat Calzaghe ?, so what does that make Calzaghe ? ( apart from welsh :yep )

A better Kessler lost to Calzaghe compared to a inferior Kessler that beat Froch.

What more is there to say on the matter ?

 

Any fighter who hails as a world champion for 11 years, and beats the fighters that Joe did is clearly special. He was a great fighter, fans and fighters all over respect him. Look at the SMW division today, Joe would beat them all, and he'd beat everyone today at LHW.

If Joe is not special, what do you define as special?
