And you sound like a guy who has never seen the Tito fight, nor any Jones fights for the last 4 years (he was throwing 20 punches a round against Johnson), and still think he boxes like he did a decade ago. :scaredas:

He never even shook Tito, who was fat / shot and there for the taking.

Jones in his prime was amazing BUT...

His credibility takes a real battering when you look at not only how he aged, but how everyone caught upto him once he got busted for cheating... and he never had any drug assistance.

There's a rumor on the scene that Calzaghe might sign with Golden Boy Promotions. According to the rumor GBP would not co-promote the September 20 show but would be advising Joe. Of course it's a huge fight and Calzaghe needs a strong team behind him.

I agree totally with you RJJ still has enough to stay with Calzaghe. Roy hits harder than Calzaghe. I still pick calzaghe by decision. These are two of the best boxers of the decade talent vs talent.

If Jones got laid out cold by Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson 3-4 years ago and is 3-4 years older now, he gets stopped easily and early by Joe Calzaghe now, who is a better boxer than either of those guys. RJJ is my favourite fighter ever, but anyone thinking he even has a fragment of his talent left is living on another planet. He hasn't won a meaningful fight against decent opposition since 2003, and he's fighting a top 3 P4P guy.

At their peaks, Jones demolishes Calzaghe. Now, it's a mismatch.

You probably reckon that Tyson could still make a succesful comeback.

Jones is way past it, he is not beating Calzaghe at this stage.

Prime for prime: Jones, by UD. Calzaghe would be more competitive than an early 90's Hopkins, though. Right now: Calza UD.

I like both fighters, but am not that keen that this one this one happening. Although RJJ isn't quite totally shot yet, It'd be an elite name on the CV at this point but not a whole lotmore. Pavlik would've a better one, but aww well.

INJURY KOs JOE CALZAGHE-ROY JONES BOUT!

According to the scene (based on a reliable source), Calzaghe vs. Jones is pushed back as Calzaghe suffered a hand injury. The source says 'the guy is really hurt'. The fight is pushed back probably to a November date.

They say it on the scene that the UK is the logical choice for the rescheduled fight - and I couldn't agree more.

The big factor here is named: Ricky Hatton. A large amount of Ricky's hardcore, travelling fans are Calzaghe's fans as well and they couldn't afford 2 trips or a 2-3 weeks long stay in the US and two tickets for both the Hatton-Malignaggi and the Calzaghe-Jones fights.

November is good for HBO, the Pavlik-Hopkins PPV is in October, DLH fights in December, Hatton will be on regular HBO on November 22, so early November looks good if Calzaghe will be ready by then. But they have to consider the ticket sales - a UK arena can be packed 2-3 weeks before the Ricky fight in the US - and of course most of the Welsh fans would skip the US trip but buy a ticket in Cardiff or London. Staging both the Hatton and the Calzaghe fights in the US in the same month would be foolish. Don't get me wrong, but it's not Malignaggi or Jones who will bring in thousands of fans.

Some other interesting things on my mind:

There are rumors that Calzaghe will sign with Golden Boy Promotions. If it's true, hell, postponing the fight sounds excellent news for GBP: instead of having 2 HBO PPVs in just 7 days, they'll have the whole November. So... the injury is bad, but November makes more sense anyway, as well as staging the fight in the UK...

Okay, it seems the fight is still going to be placed at the MSG, NYC, according to the scene. The other date originally offered by HBO was November 15, only one week before the Hatton-Malignaggi show. Since there's no other HBO PPV event that month, but September, October and December has a Pay-Per-View event already, November 15 could be the new date and the Madison Square Garden the site as originally planned.

According to Jones, the fight will be rescheduled for November 8 at the Madison Square Garden. Still HBO PPV. 24/7 possible.
