Clearly i should've taken the "might just be" out.atsch His resume, combined with his tactical "slapstick peppershot" boxing style, blistering speed and devastating power in his prime indicate he would be virtually unbeatable in any era.:deal
Funny how RJJ himself said it would have been a toss up between him and Calzaghe in his prime after his loss to Calzaghe. The 2 men share the same natural abilities. The difference is the Calzaghe learned the basic fundamentals before letting his own personality take over. If you watch him you can see he sometimes reverts to the basics if things arent working. Jones didnt and doesn't have that ability and has paid for it now. There is a reason it is called a science. Just like chess. 1 thing counters another.
Body Head's vCash total is a repugnant and laughable 75, thus rendering his opinion null and void.:deal
As a pure boxing talent we got to see how good Calzaghe was against Hopkins. Nothing mind blowing. Never was. Never would have been. Calzaghe did everything exactly right to the best of his ability. Can't do much better than that. He was as accomplished as he got. No more. No less.
So yeah, Hopkins never fought anything truely special except RJJ and got humiliated in that fight. Thou I agree with everything you said.good
Calzaghe beat Kessler - Kessler beat Froch who put on a master class against Ward... Calzaghe beat lacy when undefeated and was called "the next Mike Tyson" Calzaghe beat Hopkins. Don't reply saying "the judges got it wrong" because they didn't. Calzaghe had too much stamina for Hopkins and landed more punches on him than anyone ever has. Charles Brewer was no bum, neither was Robin Reid back in the day. Byron Mitchell had just lost his world title before he lost to Joe. Calzaghe was a special talent, thew 110 punches a round, incredible work rate, great work ethic. Even the great Sugar Ray Leonard wrote in Calzaghes autobiography and stated "who would win in a fight between me and Joe.....I'd like to say me but you never know" Sugar Ray is one of the greatest boxers of all time, for him to say that about Joe means alot. Joe is a modern great. ATG? No don't be silly. He didn't fight the best when the best was available I'll give you that. But he was a great champion there is no doubt about it. I firmly believe he would have won the super 6 if he was in it. And Amir? Time will tell, he is no joke. To recover from Prescott the way he has shows real character. Hes beaten Kotelnick and Madina who are not bums. He's still really young and has come over to America far earlier than Ricky or Joe did to prove himself. For you to slate him shows you know f**k all about boxing. He has fast hands, great stamina, heart and power which we saw in the madina body shot. His chin is suspect but he took a huge right off madina and gritted his teeth towards the end. Thats what makes an Amir fight so interesting, there are question marks about him but he always produces great fights to watch. I think he's a special talent who should be appreciated in a time where boxing is in a slump and all our favourites are set to retire
