Calzaghe left a massive void when he retired. The SMW division in particular.

    what void? no one knew or cared about Calzaghe in the big scheme of boxing he was irrelevant for years and it was his own fault he came and went in a flash, if only he had confidence in what turned out to be a prodigious talent. But its incumbent upon a fighter who wants to be on the world stage doing great things to get up off his ass and do the work.

    How good could Calzaghe have been? certainly could have been remembered as a greater fighter than his and had a much greater career than the one he had. He lacked the confidence.

    So lets just look at what you have written (the last 5 years) Where Kessler has been the #1, #2 and #3 SMW in all that time and is the best win name on Ward (the current champ) and Frochs (the #1) when he was past his best and faded and this same faded Kessler beat Froch.
    Yet Calzaghe beats prime Kessler and you think a division where faded Kessler is still near the top is suddenly a stronger division :lol::patsch.
    With what you write knowing that Calzaghe beat prime Kessler compared to the faded version, you must think that Froch and Ward have terrible resumes
    Who did he not test himself against?

    Have compared age for age and it still falls in Calzaghes favour :hi:

    Not a doctor Or watching boxing when trying to quote the era tha is being spoken of. Best you run along now before you cause further embarrassment to yourself. You have already been picked up a couple of times in this thread alone trying to talk of things you didnt know

    SMW division was **** back then because it was the new kid on the block. I still remember watching some boxing program with Pops and they started talking about the SMW division. we were like Division? we both thought 168 was made up only for SRL Hearns rematch . . . we both started to follow this "division" and soon realized that it was the waste land for marginal fighters who were not good enough for the LHW or MW divisions. Also dont get me going about that useless trinket WBO was back in the day. It use to make the IBO look like the authority of boxing

    Hearns / Leonard was the beginning of the division but that was further back then Calzaghes and truth is it seems butt hurt is part of it, just look at how Holyfield was in a then far newer CW division fighting LHWs yet hes a hero for that.
    Still such a waste land that Jones spent more time at SMW than MW and tell me one fight Jones had during his first LHW time before going up to HW that was bigger than his SMW fight with Toney :oops:

    They were fighting to try and fill the void left by Calzaghe and what did you have?

    Kessler a Calzaghe victim
    Froch WBC champ who hadnt beaten a top SMW or SMW champ
    Taylor a former MW coming in 1-3 in his last 4 fights with no top SMW wins
    Ward with no top SMW wins
    Dirrell with no top SMW wins
    Abraham a former MW with no top SMW wins and his big MW win was?

    Personally I haven't missed him since he's retired though I wasn't a fan, at least not during the last few years when he had his most success.

    To say a void has been left since his retirement is silly. The division is as competitive as it has ever been due to the Super 6 tournament, with the best fighting the best. Ward has taken Calzaghe's place as the best fighter in the division and Froch has taken Calzaghe's place as a British fan favourite.

    I can understand Calzaghe fans missing him, but for the neutral fight fan super middleweight is as good as it has ever been in terms of entertainment and quality of the match ups.

    Joe C was fun to watch. Very underrated, especially in the States. When he retired many of these bitches were claiming he left the sport because of Chad Dawson. Joe would have wrecked Dawson worse than Lacy. Despite being a betting underdog even in the U.K., like he was against Lacy.

    Calzaghe "retired" when faced with a rematch at home in wales with Bernard Hopkins. Slappy knew he got a gift decision & knew Nard would be out for redemption. So Slappy shot a finger to his devoted fans & headed for retirement. Apparantly according to reports he's living a life of sin & debachary while Nard lives a happy home life with his wife & family

    Calzaghe kicked Hopkins ass, nearly doubled Hops land rate and landed at a much higher %. Do dislike whites in general or just Brits?
