I was having a discussion with some colleagues today at work and the general consensus was that despite calzaghe nearly doubling kesslers number of punches, kessler was the only dangerous one in that fight. if the fight had have gone 15 like the old days, kessler would have eventually caught up with calzaghe.

calzaghe is being praised for merely tying up his opponent and not allowing him to land punches, while giving the impression that he was facing kessler head on.

the truth is that despite a body shot that suprised kessler, he was definately not anywhere near being hurt.

my opinion is that if jc wants to keep that '0' then he needs to fight hopkins, tarver, woods or taylor and avoid the likes of kessler in a rematch and pavlik as they will probably ko him. he might have avoided kessler for 12 rounds, but 24 is pushing his luck and skills of evasion.

    Terrible post.

Calzaghe controled Kessler with his jab, nuetralizing Kessler's jab and not allowing him to throw his bread and butter jab cross combination effectively.

He did not overly clinch, and if fact slipped several right hands which Kessler threw.

He took the fight away from him early, preasuring him and in fact CALZAGHE could have gone 15 at that pace while Kessler could not.

Yes Calzaghe is the older fighter, but in boxing there is physical exaustion and mental, and Kessler was mentaly done while Calzaghe was fresh and in complete control.

I thought Joe did what he had to do to win, he wasnt going to KO Kessler but he knew Kessler was going to continue to press the issue without much change in his offensive strategy. Sure Joe was hit and hit flush at moments in the fight but Kessler did not apply diverse pressure he constantly attempted the simple double jab right cross sequence which is all to predictable. I think a fighter such as Chad Dawson would cause Joe major problems but Joe's exp level and ring savy should be well praised and respected.

Kessler looked shattered and dispirited to me, Calzaghe looked fine. I don't agree with you that Kessler would have stopped Calzaghe over 15 rounds.

I do agree that Kessler looked the more likely of the two to score a stopage. But Calzaghe outclassed him in my view.

was refering to his interview on sky sports today where he didnt have a single mark on his face.

those 2 uppercuts from kessler in the 4th were beauties.

This is one of the daftest things I have read on this site. You probably think Jeff Lacy would beat Joe in a rematch.
I can only assume that you never actually saw the fight and you are simply posting laughable rubbish because you are bored.

Calzaghe looked dominant as opposed to your post. I picked Kessler and was rooting for him, but it was clear after the 5th round on that Kessler could not get off his money 1 - 2 combination. He replaced his combination with the Uppercut but it wasnt consistent and sneaky enuogh to mount a threat to JC. I still think Kessler is a bad ass and would slaughter almost any conventional fighter in the division

    Great post! :good

Like Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler coudl have fought a different fight and perhaps the outcome might have been different. But that is only a guess, all we know for sure is what happened. Calzaghe was indeed "fresh and in complete control."

the thing is if either Lacy or Kessler fought differently then Joe adapt's and still wins....

?? lacey didn't stand a chance, did you see him rob vitali tsypko in his next fight - i had lacey losing by 2 rounds. lacey would lose 100% of the time against jc.

calzaghe looked like a weak punching man trying his hardest to evade being sparked and pitter patting kessler all night with volume of punches.

    Calzaghe looked anything but vulnerable...

    come on! :patsch

He took a devastating uppercut by Kessler and didn't even look hurt. Something that would have send just about any other fighter to the canvas...

Joe seems to find solutions against any fighter. Even when you hit him, he never slows down...

It's fairly obvious that you have nothing good to say about Calzaghe. Most Calzaghe haters at least admit he was by far the best man on the night. Go back to living Eastenders you cockney twaT
