people can say what they like.joe has made the correct choice fighting jones and not pavlik.it is his last fight and he needs more money. ask your self what would you do. if he wasnt going to retire his best choice would of been pavlik to forward his career. but he is not looking to forward his career he is retiring on a pay day. Well done joe.
everyone has to be honest and agree with you, yes for joe its the correct decision, but for the fans its s**t IMO
I have no problem with Joe fighting Jones. I would like JC to beat up Jones like he has never tasted before so Jones will finally retire.
i would have loved to see that fight (pav v calz)but we hopfully will see pavlik face kessler instead which would be an absolute classic.
Yep, forget the fans who made him rich in the first place, who have backed him his whole career, and who will make him even more rich in his next fight.
It's the right choice for him in the sense that he can face a big name who's way past his prime, still get millions for fighting him and RJJ has said previously he would be willing to go to the Millenium Stadium. In terms of his legacy, well if he doesn't fight Pavlik he doesn't have one.
I'm kind of surprised so many think Pavlik, the middleweight champion, can so easily go up and defeat the light heavyweight champion. Calzaghe beat the guy who clearly whipped Tarver and Winky. Those guys are top fighters and Hopkins handled them with relative ease. He did not do so with Joe. If they fight at Light heavy, Joe wins a fairly comfortable decision. If they fight at 168, maybe Pavlik would do better. (I think Pavlik is a fantastic fighter, by the way.)
This is the unfortunate part. Knowledgeable boxing fans know that Jones just doesn't have it anymore, but casual fans may still view this a very viable challenge for Calzaghe and an important victory. Joe and his people know this is the case. And if they can fill Millenium stadium in the process, then everyone is happy. Except for us serious fans who realize a bout with Jones is a scam. I don't think you can say he has "no legacy" just because he doesn't fight Pavlik. It might diminish his legacy, but it's not going to negate it.
This fight won't be in the state because it will generate zero dollars. In Wales they can put a corps in front of Joe and he'll make money. So this BS about fighting Jones for money is a joke. He's fighting Jones for the name only.
This content is protected mark my words, just watch Jones will negotiate himself out of the equation and Calzaghe STILL won't fight Pavlik. Whichever way you look at it Calzaghe is a chicken **** fraud who even had me fooled.
Harsh I know to say he has no legacy, put it would seriously stain it if he werent to take on Pavlik and opts to face RJJ instead as you've already said. Btw pmfan I'd agree with you, Calzaghe takes a comfortable decision at light-heavy and a closer one but still clear UD at super-middle.
If RJJ prices himself out I think JC would fight Pavlik. But for the time being it seems like he wants an easier payday.
