I was lucky enough to grow up at a time in Britain when we had boxing on free television where I would sit and watch Benn,Eubank and Watson fights for free with my Grandmother. They were all household names and poor Calzaghe came a year to late. He was so talented but missed out on the wave of great support the other three enjoyed. Now there are many forum posts that ask who is the most overrated or underrated and who ducked who but Calzaghe is the most underrated boxer but was at a weight where the names he deserved eluded him. He finished his career unbeaten and had a few nice paydays to put the cherry on top. Now Mayweather a future hall of famer like Joe has done it the hard way, im not a fan but he has gone through the weights and blitzed all. Will his legacy be shattered if he has a loss on his record? Has his zero record made him safe, look safe? Prince Naseem Hamed I think even with the loss will go down well in history but the varnish was taken off.
It's a poster on here who usually only posts to bash Calzaghe. He has been here for 5 years and has been spewing the same nonsense since like his second post.
Cheers for letting me know but Herol is busy walking around his house crossdressing in his mothers clothes so its all good:good
Calzaghe the most underrated boxer? What i do know is he's by FAR the most talked about non active boxer on this board. I doubt a single week's gone by since he retired where there's not been at least one Zaggers thread, and some of the ensuing debates have been thesis like Like the great man's itself, it's a record that speaks for itself :deal
Did it in his first one under this account. http://www.boxingforum24.com/search.php?searchid=3095527&pp=25&page=29
Nobody's legacy should ever be shattered from a loss. But Floyd's ego will be, due to how he's carried himself over the years. I agree with you regarding Joe. He came right in the middle of the Benn, Eubank, Watson, Collins era, and the Froch, Ward era. When he was in his late 20's-early 30's, his division wasn't great. But he did have the opportunity to move to LHW. But I think Joe's ego is as big as Floyd's, and I don't believe he could have coped with a loss. I think a loss would have broken him mentally, like it will with Floyd if he loses to Manny. Maybe it stems from their childhood, or somewhere/someone from their background? I know Joe has admitted that he was bullied as as a kid, as many unfortunately are, and that must be a truly awful experience for anyone. That may have effected him psychologically through his adult life. Because at times, he seemed to me as though he was obsessed by it, like Floyd is. But the fans don't care. Both Floyd and Joe would have gained more respect had they lost. Nobody cares that Marciano was undefeated, and Ali lost 5 times. Nobody would ever rate Rocky higher.
Only in Boxing is a loss a bad thing. If you CONSTANTLY compete AGAINST THE BEST, a loss is inevitable. Fact. What would make it a lot worser for Floyd is that he is the self-proclaimed 'best ever'.
