Joe Calzaghe was an elite fighter and one of the best of his generation. His stamina was extraordinary, and his ability to adapt in fights was S class.

However, his resume is weak and the best fighters he beat were not in their primes and Lacy and Kessler have never proved anything in the sport.

If Kessler wins this SMW tourney, then we can take another look at Joes career.

Calzaghe was awesome. He was so fast, great staimina, chin, etc. Anyone who knows boxing has to know that, if anything Calzaghe is underrated.

No way Bernard Hopkins beat Joe Calzaghe. Joey deserves FULL credit for that win. He flurried Bernard's ears off.

That tells us all we need to know !

    Isn't hindsight great.

Here's what some of the experts predicted BEFORE the fight:

Live Saturday night from the MEN Arena in Manchester, England, Showtime brings us the super middleweight unification bout between Jeff Lacy and Joe Calzaghe. This fight, at least on paper, has it all. Two champs, both undefeated, one a boxer, one a puncher, one a Yank, one a Brit, a little something for everyone. St. Petersburg, Florida’s Jeff Lacy is a fighter on the rise, a slugger who improves with every outing, but he’s never met a boxer as wily as Joe Calzaghe. The Welshman has been at the top for a very long time, but he, like Jeff Lacy, is about to be tested. This is how The Sweet Science writers see it:

Twelve of them predicted Lacy to win, mostly by brutal KO.

Only one smart one in that whole bunch !

BTW, James Toney and Freddy Roach both predicted a mismatch in favour of Lacy too.

But of course AFTER the fight, everybody always knew that Lacy was a bum.

Get the **** outta here !

I asked that question (with a poll) in a thread last year.

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103311

The consensus was that Joe's BHop was better than Roy's.

The thread makes an interesting read.

The supermiddle is regarded NOW as a hotbed of Talent because.....There

are now 6-8 Kesslers in the division as before there were only 1 in Joes 10 years,

I would also say Froch Taylor have more credibility than Kessler

    Ward has more talent
    Dirrel also

    Abraham...

You're using double standards and making false statements.

Chris Eubank was 31 years old when Calzaghe dominated him for the SMW title. You said he was "old".

Then you say Hopkins and Jones were old and past it when Calzaghe fought them, but you neglect to acknowledge the same about him. Calzaghe was 36 when he fought BHop, and his hands had already been fractured several times because of all the punches he lands in each fight. The prime Calzaghe is the one who fought Eubank, not the recent one.

Calzaghe had more power in his prime, that's obvious from the videos.

And about the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight, you're just shooting your mouth off because one judge decided to give BHop a going-away present in what was supposed to be his last fight. Watch the fight and keep the word "aggression" in mind. Calzaghe had at least a 5-round edge in that fight. How on earth do you score fights? Based on who backs off better?
