You say awkward...I say blind biased opinion. He is a nationalistic ***** (I used to be a supporter of his and looked at him as a funny guy...but his **** just got old and insulting to say the least).... Plus, he is blindly biased in every possible way...same as the rest of them. I agree he does know more about the sport than the rest of that list...but he is cut from the same mold as well.
:good He looks at boxing from a standpoint of "How can I make this guy look lesser in comparison to Calzaghe". He'd argue that Calzaghe's top 4 wins are greater than Ray Leonard's if you got into it with him.
That's what has always got me about Amsterdam. He's not a dumb****, he's smart, you can tell. Yet, he's always doing stupid **** like this thread, and jumping to hyperbole all the time. My argument with him is that he's better than all this, and he knows it, but yet he continues to fall back into his old fanboy traps. I figure he does it for shits and giggles.
I disagree, but I also talk to him in real time outside of the forum, where he's less of a 'character' and he's always gotten his predictions right and gives a good analysis. He's all tongue and cheek.
Want to make Amsterdam leave a thread? Ask him to break a fight down in terms of styles as strengths of the fighters (other then Calzaghe) in an unbiased manner. It's happened before, and he usually disappears.
Well, he's still a moron then. Being a "character" on a message board is about as lame as one can get. It's funny for a little bit, but it's a bit awkard after a few months, then I question your mental health when you keep it up for years.
You take him too seriously. He's not from the same mold as those guys, because again, those guys are lowbrow, ****ing morons who know nothing about the sport. He's quite knowledgable, but he also doesn't care about proving anything to his internet forum friends, he's here to bring out his eccentricities and have a little fun, watch though for good analysis in between the madness and take the funny stuff for what it is. Guy's a joker.
Oh that's right....you guys PRETEND to be something else on this forum. For CHJ, he pretends to be the John Salley of boxing, and you pretend to be an arrogant SMUG poster. Thanks.:good
Oh man, never have I done that in thread, break down styles and talk about strengths, weaknesses, punches that come into play, intangible facts. I don't think I've ever done that in my posting history here.:think
No, you're not. He has lost a step in his footspeed and even more noticably, his handspeed. He can't put his punches together as fast as he could in the Lacy fight. And compared to when he fought Byron Mitchell, when his handspeed was absolutely ridiculous, it's night and day. He has other facets to his game that should allow him to be highly successful for another year or so. If he were to fight an improving fighter like Chad Dawson in mid/late 2009, or even rematch Kessler, there's a good chance he'd lose. I would probably go as far as favoring them. The perfect exit plan for Joe: beat Hopkins in April, beat Dawson later this year, and beat Woods in Wales in early 2009.
