I really can't remember Calzaghe having many fans on this forum before he fought Lacy, no one really gave him a chance back then and as the fight got close his chances were getting higher and higher but as far as support, I can still remember his loyal fans before that and the fake ones after it.
The difference is Pavlik really is that good and has starched 2 Blue chip fighters of good to high caliber Miranda and Taylor, and if Slappy joe took care of a guy like Pavlik I would be duly impressed
Lacy was as good as Pavlik before the Calzaghe fight according to most on here, I remeber creating the thread ''Joe will annhilate Lacy'' aevery single person from the US claimed I was 'crazy' and how Joe had never fought somebody as good as Lacy, etc etc etc
yea i gotta admit im a big calzaghe fan , n a will always read posts about him than any body else on esb so count me in! Go Joe!
I have to admit I despise the views of may 'mafia' members. The majority of whom cannot say "Joe Calzaghe is the BOAT (Best of all time)" and mean it. Joe Calzaghe fans have no apreciation for how good he actually is, they are just underrate him everso slightly less than the rest of the world.
I think most of them will dissappear & the more prominent ones will become less vocal for a while. I really hope Hopkins pulls this one off.
I dunno, I can't speak for other members here, but suddenly disliking a fighter if he loses is just plain sad. I don't care if Joe never wins a fight again, I recognize his achievements so far, I see awsome skills, and I see an under-appreciated fighter that so called "boxing fans" should really be celebrating while he's still around. Fighters like Joe don't come around too often. However, I also hope that his fairweather fans disappear from ESB, should he lose to Hopkins.
The trouble is most Calzaghe fans definition of "under appreciation" is anyone who doesn't project him to a god like status. Calzaghe is an extremely talented fighter but too many WBO defences & too much talking have left him struggling for recognition from objective boxing fans.
JC isn't a God to me. I worship no-one, and no-one is unbeatable, but if anyone comes close to being unbeatable, it has to be Joe.
