It's easy to give that impression when you're fighting Tocker Pudwill, Mario Veit & Mger Mkrtchian. Thats the equivalent of a Ferrari racing a Civic.
Not really. I think he has fought some great opponents, Eubank (who gave him his hardest fight) and Kessler being the ones who come to mind straight away. Every fighter has to face a few "nobodies", and Joe is no exception. He has fought plenty of champs. Kessler is another under-appreciated fighter, actually. I think Kessler would kick Hopkins' ass for days. Don't get me wrong, I like Bernard, btw.
I've seen leaked info on this Joe C. Mafia (not going to say "who" did it out of respect, but to a degree, well let's say it "raised my eyebrows". What I do know could get me killed, so I will just say a little. It was said that Amsterdam is the President and members ONLY TAKE THEIR ORDERS!!! from him. ORDERS!!!!???
I think it's fair to say Joe has fought more nobodies since becoming "champ" than anyone. Kessler is not in the same league as Hopkins, he is a good, solid but essentially one dimensional fighter. Eubank was past it. I'd say for the five years preceeding the Lacy fight Joe was treading water expecting a Hopkins or Jones to fight him for his bauble in Wales. He talked too much about 175 without actually doing anything.
Dan, that's cool -- you're welcome to disagree and I'm not gonna say you're wrong for doing so. I appreciate Calzaghe. You don't. It's all good. One thing I will say is that I won't lump myself in with any of those kind of fanboys of any given fighter who simply cannot accept anyone else's opinions.
IMHO, skillwise, JC is on a A- level as a fighter.(PBF is an example of A+). He doesn't slug with devastating power, nor a tremendously slick boxer. But he has had tremendous success combining both. The main knack on him is his weak field of challengers/quality of opposition. I keep reading that Eubank gave him his toughest fight. Ok, but wasn't Eubank already far away from his prime? And Joe isn't a guy who fell on the "fighter who face nobodies once in a while" category. But more of a "fighter who faces someone with a name once in a long while". Again, talentwise, Joe is one high-caliber guy, He's the best at 168. But that's all he is. He's just supposed to be at least, #5 P4P.
Well, I hear ya. TFFP is kind of confusing. Some days he posts nothing but good ****, and other days it's like his "kid" brother has taken over his computer and just trolls the **** out of Calzaghe.
I would love to be able to appreciate him more but I watched too many of his fights knowing the outcome. It became quite frustrating watching a JC fight where the only question was whether it would be a KO or UD win. I normally hoped for a quick KO win so as to forego the tedium.
