Did you even watch Ward vs Kessler? Ward did not stop Kessler and it was not a TKO.

2 or 3 fights before Ward he was undefeated and Krushing fighters. Don’t let us start rewriting history. Calzaghe was good but his record was flawed by fighting legends past their best. The difference between Ward and him is Ward beat guys at their peak. Ward was also an Olympic Gold medalist.

I did watch it which you clearly did not. Ward beat Kessler at every facet of the game and the fight did not go the distance did it. Calling it quitting , call it a technical decision whatever the tough Viking warrior did not see the end of the fight.

I scored the first Kovalev fight for Ward as did the 3 Professional judges.

Nah, Chilemba was a pts win no Krushing, and people noticed he wasn't as sharp before that no matter him winning
    Ward fought Joes leftovers

I call it the ref stopping it because of a cut from a headbutt/clash...but hey, you go ahead and rewrite the truth if that's what floats your boat.

The referee stopped it because Kessler could not continue and furthermore Kessler never wanted a rematch because Ward was to good for him.

No one is disagreeing about Kessler not being able to continue because of the cut caused by a Ward headbutt, but are you saying it was a TKO then? If so, you'd better let the WBA and California Boxing Commission know that their records are incorrect.

    bailey,

I know the facts my good man.

    These are the facts:

Joe stopped him in a single round in 2001.

So fighting him again was a complete and utter joke and it just showed what a lack of ambition he had.

You already know my opinion on Bernard Hopkins. He was like Joe. He liked to be the big fish in the small pond. He lacked ambition. There were better fighters for him to target at the above weights.

He stagnated. He constantly whined to the media about wanting to fight better opponents, but he wouldn't go up just 7 pounds to try and fight them. Okay, Bernard wouldn't fight him. But why did he starve himself to fight those low level WBO guys when there were better fighters to target at LHW?

    We both know the answer:

He didn't want to fight them.

Based on what I've just said above.

Andre Ward didn't decide against Bute. He just wanted a break after the S6. He had a fractured hand against Carl in the final, and when it was over, he was more than happy to let Carl face Bute. But after Carl had hammered him, nobody wanted to see Andre fight him. Because he was deemed as being damaged goods. But had Carl not have beaten him, I see no reason why Andre wouldn't have fought him at some point. When there was no more demand for that fight, that's when he targeted Chad Dawson. And Dawson was seen as being just as dangerous, and he was also more proven at the highest level. It's just a shame that it wasn't contested at LHW.

Why would he have been interested in rematching Carl in Nottingham?

He'd already beaten him easily with a fractured hand.

    I didn't say at SMW.

He was asked about a potential fight after he'd fought Hopkins.

He gave the same predictable response that he gave when asked about Tarver and Pavlik:

"I've no interest in Dawson. He's done nothing to warrant a fight with me. He doesn't excite me"

    Same old, same old.

What did all those WBO guys do to excite him?

As we know, he bowed out against Roy instead, despite saying beforehand that a fight would be pointless as Roy was shot.

I know that. But we both know that if Kovalev had been on the scene back then, he'd have gone nowhere near him.

If you deny that you're deluded.

Like I've already said, I believe he'd have fought Bute had Carl not have beaten him so emphatically.

He went out and fought Dawson. Again, it's just a shame that he was drained.

When were fights against Groves and DeGale ever really viable?

When they were on the up, his career was stop-start due to injuries and contractual disputes. He wasn't sure if he could comfortably make SMW again. He then decided to move up to LHW.

There's no way he'd have travelled to the U.K.

But how many top, undefeated fighters were there for him to fight at SMW?

Kessler and Froch had already been beaten.

There was only really Dirrell and Bute, and Bute wasn't in the S6.

Again, he went on and fought a top, undefeated LHW in Kovalev, who was considered more dangerous than anybody in the S6, which also included guys such as Bute and Dawson etc.

You can't blame Joe for that.

The final of the S6 was 3 years after he'd retired.
