when you rule a division for 10 years, completely undisputing a division

He was undisputed champion for a couple of months in total, if that, and this was only achieved in his 10th year as champion in the division.

In his WBO-only title reign from 1997 til 2006 (9 years), he fought a succession of challengers that were a mix of decent, poor, and downright ridiculous (Byron Mitchell is the only one I would say was actually good). See the thread start and make your own mind up who falls into which category - but there's no need for a 'very good' category, as there were none til he unified 2 titles v Lacy in '06.

Yeah sorry for not being so entertaining. Even if I had lots and lots and lots more spare time on my hands I could never rival your 2000+ posts of sheer quality that you've managed in such a short space of time. Please keep up the good work as the subject of the majority of those brilliant posts is actually aware of your obsession with him and loves a good laugh

He has fought 2 'peak' names, guys who were not on the slide nor any good in the first place.

    Lacy - shoit

Kessler - broken hand going into Calzaghe's back yard.

    Thats basically that.

Whoever writes all the nonesense about all these opponents being really good etc etc has way to much time on their hands.

    Hopkins record

    Fought Jones Jr = lost

Beat Trinidad = former welter,so what

Beat De La Hoya = former welter,so what

Beat Tarver = up and down performer

Title fights = Council,Bo James,Jackson,Frank,Lipsey,Vanderpool,Mercado,Allen,Hakker -who the hell are these bums!!!

Why did the IBF,WBC sanction such poor opponents

    Lost to Calzaghe,Mitchell,Taylor

    That`s basically that.

Whoever writes all the nonesense about all these opponents being really good etc etc has way to much time on their hands. :hi:

    very good wins: Kessler
good wins: Lacy, Brewer, Mitchell, Reid
    solid wins: Veit, Bika, Eubank

The rest weren´t bums but not really deserving of a title shot. Imo his reign was nothing spectacular but very similar to that of most protected German-based champs like Beyer or Sturm until he stepped up late in his career - what imo only happened because Warren didn´t think he would go on much longer and wanted to make the best out of it.
Imo Joe C. is the greatest smw ever and an atg at that weight but he falls short when we take a look at the bigger picture. One of the best of his era, the current p4p number 3.

you forget he also lost to winky but Hopkins has been p4p #1 and a big name for much of his career and out there in the open for any and all challenges its just nobody wanted to challenge him and there wasn't anybody left to beat in the middleweight division when he was done. if somebody challenged him outside the middleweight division(tito, dlh) he took them happily and none of the 175ers wanted to come down cause they all wanted a shot at roy and a big pay day

If Hoppkins was "out there in the open for any and all challenges" Calzaghe was as well. The only time Hopkins ventured ouside the US he could only scrae a draw. Calzaghe has prove he can travel several thousand miles and WIN something Hopkins has yet to prove.

How has he proven that mate??? Out of his 45 fights, only 3 were outside Great Britain. He's fought once in Denmark in 2001, once in Germany in 2005 and his last fight vs Hopkins in the US.
And before you base your answer on Hopkins, I don't give a damn about him, he hasn't proven that either.

I was basing in on the fact that he`s travelled abroad and won. In his first fight at light-heavyweight and his first fight in Las Vegas against a guy who Americans regard as a legend he won. Simple. The reason Ikeep bringing up Hopkins is that people on here rate Hopkins an ATG whilst ragging on Calzaghe despite their records not being dissimilar when inspected closely. I`d call that a double standard.

I hear you and I agree with the travelling part. But in all honesty, I think Hopkins's resume is better. In your previous post you didn't mention his win over Winky Wright, and you have to admit he deserved at least one win over Taylor, he landed more and at a higher % in both fights.
