    I wouldn't necessarily call this definitive, because it is the annual rankings and over the course of a year, monthly rankings change. But as you can tell, the vast majority of the guys he fought, when he fought them were not ranked.......at least the year before or after. It is certainly indicative of a general level of competition.

    As you saud "at least the year before or after"

    Mario Veit for example, was considered **** the year before and after, but Calzaghe fans over rate that brear like he was something special.

    Agreed. However, Calzaghe did fight Woodhall in Dec/2000 after he had been in the top 10 (8th) in 99. Let it be noted.

    Hopkins vs Pascal I and II, happening after RJJ. Hopkins aint saying he beat a legend or what not like Calzaghe did. And Hopkins hasnt retired.

    Hopkins is still doing business in the LHW division and didnt run away like Calzaghe who is 8 years his junior.

    You given no evidence. Hopkins called out Jones Jr in 2002, when Jones Jr was P4P #2 in the world. Yet still you say

    :patsch

    Well with regards to a prime RJJ, Hopkins went for him, he was a better fighter than Calzaghe has ever been, and asked for a 50/50 split since he was P4P #1 while RJJ was P4P #2. 50/50 split was a fair deal but RJJ ducked it.

    Calzaghe was scared and said I know my capabilities.

    Hopkins is the one that got Calzaghe to fight him in Apr 2008, he is the one who challenged RJJ. Calzaghe was a nobody back in 2002, Hopkins said **** him I got bigger fish to fry and bigger money to make which he did.

    Calzaghe didnt even fight the best in his division Ottke.

    Now you saying still, before you was blaming Hopkins.

    Is this the first time you seem that video :lol: you sound confused.

    Calzaghe said he knows his capabilities and will require the crown jewels, thats ***** talk.

    What point you making.

    He should give a rematch because Hopkins called him out, it was an SD win, and it would have been in Calzaghe's hometown which would be a better farewell than RJJ in MSG. Calzaghe didnt want it.

    Hopkins got the SD against him, that is over with. And I accept it, and forget it.

    But Calzaghe also was too ***** to give a rematch in Cardiff, thats a fact.

    Glad you accept that Calzaghe beat Hopkins, once you accept that you can move on objectively, when talking about the merits of Hopkins and Froch, if you say day after day that Calzaghe is crap and Hopkins and froch are great it just does not stack up because Calzaghe beat Hopkins and Calzaghe beat Kessler and Kessler beat Froch, those are facts they are givens.

    To be taken seriously you have to accept that Calzaghe beat Hopkins fair and square and when talking about Hopkins standing in boxing and his defeats you can say well Calzaghe was a great boxer that never lost a fight and Roy Jones was superb back in the day blah, blah, blah, to say Hopkins is great and Calzaghe is crap only makes a fool of yourself, the debate regarding Calzaghe is how great is he not is he great.

    My opinion on Calzaghe is the one which Hopkins held.

    Hopkins compares himself to a ferrari, and Calzaghe to a Mercedes, then says Mercedes is a good car but not a ferrari.

    Froch = Current contender to enter P4P ranks
    Calzaghe = HOF
    Hopkins = ATG

    When I say Calzaghe is crap, thats in comparision to Hopkins and RJJ. Calzaghe dont measure up with them.

    Now I compare boxers head to head, not because it suits Calzaghe but thats what I do when rating any boxers no matter what nationalities whether I like the boxer or not, sport not just boxing is about winning and whether people like Calzaghe or not, head to head there would not be many boxers capable of beating him, posters are guilty of rewarding failure, Bivins and De La Hoya come to mind both excellent boxers, but both lost a lot of fights against other elite boxers, now some people think its great because they are in the ring with another great boxer but losing most fights against elite boxers does not and should not make a boxer a high ranking ATG, for example boxer 'A' may only have faced and beaten 6 elite boxers in an unbeaten career, boxer 'B ' may have faced 12 elite boxers in his career but only won 3 of them, I would always rank boxer 'A' higher with 6 elite wins to 3, a 100% success rate against the best whereas boxer 'B' only had half the wins of boxer 'A' against elite boxers with a success rate at the highest level of only 25%.
    I think Calzaghe beats Hopkins everytime, im not saying that because im Welsh or trying to wind you up, head to head Joe wins, too fast, too quick, punch output and matches Hopkins for ring craft and determination, as regards resume if you think Hopkins has fought better and you dont mark down for losses then fine thats upto you, but head to head I rank Calzaghe higher than Hopkins.
    Thats why I rate Calzaghe highly he beat everybody that was put in his way some average performers but some elite performers.

    Do you really think that example applies here?

    Ring craft, no match. But, he was fast, quick, determined, output, etc. and would have given Hopkins trouble at any point.

    I think Calzaghe would beat any version of the Hopkins who was a lhw. If he had fought the Hopkins who fought at mw, even if the fight took place at smw, I think Hopkins wins.
    Who was elite in your eyes?

    And you make it sound as if he had no say over who he fought.

    Calzaghe's nous and ringcraft is 10 out of 10, he can win a tear up like Mitchell or get the job done like he did against Hopkins or win by throwing devastating combinations like against Lacy. Calzaghe always found a way to win, look at the Robin Reid fight they both disliked each other Calzaghe fought away from home, he had glass put in his salad and his ice cream, he had food poisoning, he broke/badly damaged his hand in the 4th round yet still found a way to win this time behind his jab against a solid title holder, Calzaghe cant be falted for ringcraft.

    :lol: Despite compressing so many excuses into such a short space, you still haven't obscured the fact that Calzaghe was taken to an SD by a guy who had lost a UD to a 42 year old with a 41-10 record two fights earlier, and who got UD'd by the great Silvio Branco in his very next fight.

    Glass in his salad and ice cream... :yikes You are losing touch with reality man. That's ****ing woeful!!

    Hopkins best wins at middlewight are not as good as people might think.

    Trinidad won 1 world title fight at middleweight. {Felix was a natural welterweight}
    DLH only won 1 world title fight at middleweight.{DLH was a natural lightweight/welterweight}
    Joppy won lots of world title fights at middleweight but mainly against average quality it must be said.
    Glen Johnson had never had a world title fight at the time.

    Interestingly Calzaghe has a much higher caliber of opponent for best wins at his main career weight compared to Hopkins .
    Calzaghe had Kessler and Lacy as stand out wins both with many world title wins at the weight, in Kesslers case both before and after losing to Calzaghe in Lacy's case he was ruined against Calzaghe but had won titles at the weight before the Calzaghe fight, Lacy's corner should have chucked the towel in for the sake of their mans boxing career.
    Mitchell won a few world title fights and had a couple of close away defeats in world title fights and was a good win for Calzaghe.
    Reid won a few world title fights against average quality it must be said.

    So it looks like Calzaghe's best super-middleweight wins were better than Bhops best middleweight wins ?

    Yes thats right dinamita, pacfan, el cepillo, popkins, he has loads of aliases, he got found out, he would have all his aliases supporting one side of the argument and all voting the same way in polls {still does I suppose unless the site has put a stop to it}, he is anti Calzaghe and pro Hopkins, Calzaghe beating Hopkins really done his head in.:D
