Think one was an international amateur fight (against some eatern european i think) where he lost a close decision in the other guys back yard with a home ref or something along those lines. He had another amateur loss where apparently the judges of the fight were banned from judging fights shortly thereafter. Think he KO'd Chris Byrd in the amateurs aswell

He couldnt fight in an international bout against Norway, so the Welsh ABA said he couldnt participate in the 1992 games. Think it was common knowledge that his face just didnt fit as the Welsh ABA just thought he was too big headed. he use to show boat during his amateur fights and it wasnt seen as a 'good thing'

I remember on his HBO intro ... he said that he lost his first amateur bout ... and the other one happened in 1990 which was mentioned during his fight w/ Sakio bika.

Does anyone know his overall amateur record? I know on his bio it said that he had something like 120 fights ...

    Who are you?

You are a newb with 2 posts and your already putting hate on someone. You should just stick to reading and leave the writing to people who actually care about the sport.

his dad was the trainer...which isnt alowed in olympic boxing. they had a big slog out with the welsh comissions. both guys felt they were robbed from glory they should/would/could of got.

im sure he lost 2 or 3 more amatuer fights. from what i remember he wasnt a natural boxer more of a slugger who didnt commit to every punch and relied on his left hand to swwop the win for him.

this style is not friendly for the amatuer judges so i'm sure he would of been outpointed by a slicker boxer

vantage west got it right to the reasons .

calzaghe`s amatuer record was something like 120-10

calzaghe last loss as an amatuer was as a welterweight

calzaghe never lost an amatuer fight as a light middle and middleweight.

calzaghe was the aba middleweight champ in 1992 and therefore should have been the uk pick for the 92 olympics.
    boxing politics kept him out.

as to the calzaghe v byrd fight being a myth in 1992 , that tournament was put up in graph form for months on esb around 2002 or 2003, showing how the fighters progressed round by round until the final and in all weight divisions.

there were many notible fighters that took part in this international tournament that took place in italy.

the website was in italian , but easy to read the boxers names.
